Rising chicken prices encourage farmers to restock their flocks.

Since the beginning of August, chicken prices have continuously increased, and favorable market conditions have helped poultry farmers make a profit after a long period of losses. Joy has returned to many farms as farmers enthusiastically expand their operations, accelerate restocking, and prepare for the year-end food market.

About six months ago, the price of commercial chicken at farms only fluctuated between 37,000 and 45,000 VND/kg, and at times even lower, causing many farmers to suffer heavy losses. Currently, the price of chicken has increased sharply, reaching from 55,000 to 80,000 VND/kg depending on the breed and rearing time, helping farmers earn significant profits.

With rising chicken prices, many poultry farmers are excited to restock their flocks.

In Xuan Quang commune, the atmosphere in the chicken farms has become much more bustling. Bags of feed are being moved into the coops, the feeders are being replenished continuously, and the cheerful clucking of chickens signals that a bountiful harvest is approaching.

Ms. Vui Thi Thuy's family is currently raising over 7,000 chickens, mostly hybrid breeds. Every day, she spends almost all her time in the chicken coop, checking the floor, bedding, feed troughs, and cleaning the entire rearing area. The family has fully vaccinated the chickens from the age of 5 days to over 1 month old, ensuring the flock is healthy as they enter the fattening phase.

Ms. Vui Thi Thuy is taking care of her new batch of chickens.

Ms. Vui Thi Thuy shared: “In February, my family sold 7,000 chickens at only 37,000 VND/kg, resulting in a loss of nearly 500 million VND. The last batch sold for 55,000 VND/kg, bringing in a profit of about 200 million VND. Last year, the low chicken prices lasted for a long time, making it very difficult for farmers. Now that prices have increased, I'm starting a new batch to prepare for the year-end market and the Lunar New Year, hoping to maintain a good price to partially compensate for the previous losses.”

The joy isn't just for Ms. Thuy's family. Mr. Phan Nhat Quang's farm, Director of Xuan Tien Livestock Cooperative, currently raises 50,000 chickens, reaching maximum capacity. From mid-2025, the chicken market began to improve, with prices remaining high and stable for many months.

“Our farm mainly raises hybrid Ri chickens and No. 1 Mia chickens. Currently, the selling price of No. 1 Mia chickens is 78-80 thousand VND/kg, and they sell out as soon as they arrive. Hybrid chickens and Ho chickens range from 60-62 thousand VND/kg. Compared to the beginning of the year, the price has increased by about 25-30 thousand VND per kg,” shared Mr. Phan Nhat Quang, Director of Xuan Tien Livestock Cooperative.

Currently, Xuan Tien Livestock Cooperative has 5 members, maintaining a total herd of over 80,000 animals per batch, raising 2 batches per year. The cooperative is strengthening its sales linkages with businesses and wholesale markets to stabilize output and avoid price risks.

Xuan Quang commune has a strong advantage in poultry farming with a total flock of over 870,000 birds. The entire commune currently has over 200 medium-sized farms and family farms, developing in a concentrated manner and applying biosecurity procedures to improve efficiency and minimize disease risks.

Mr. Do Hong Quan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Quang commune, said: "We guide people not only to expand the scale of production but also to ensure good veterinary hygiene and disease prevention, and to participate in the supply chain to have a stable market. Especially during the end of the year and the Lunar New Year, the commune coordinates with relevant units to balance the supply and avoid the situation of a bumper harvest leading to low prices."

According to experienced poultry farmers, chicken prices are expected to remain relatively stable in the coming period due to a balance between supply and demand. However, many remain cautious, suggesting that restocking should be done in smaller stages, avoiding a large-scale operation during the Lunar New Year to prevent oversupply. The increase in chicken prices is attributed to the low prices at the end of 2024, which led many farmers to hesitate in restocking, resulting in a decrease in supply. Furthermore, stricter controls on contaminated food and imports of unknown origin have created favorable conditions for the consumption of domestically produced poultry products.

The agricultural sector advises livestock farmers to carefully consider their options and avoid expanding too quickly without establishing a secure market for their products.

According to statistics from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the total poultry population in the first nine months of 2025 reached over 13 million birds, nearly 100% of the annual plan and an increase of over 7% compared to the same period in 2024. This growth stems from many households proactively switching models, utilizing abandoned barns after the African swine fever outbreak to raise chickens, ducks, and geese, helping to maintain a stable source of income.

Simultaneously, disease prevention and control measures have been implemented vigorously. Many localities regularly spray disinfectants and distribute over 20,000 liters of chemicals to prevent avian influenza. Thanks to effective disease control, the province's livestock production has gradually recovered and developed steadily. Many households have invested in renovating their barns, applying biosecurity techniques, and focusing on breeding stock and nutrition to improve productivity and meat quality.

In the last months of the year, the demand for poultry meat usually increases, especially during the Lunar New Year. Local authorities are focusing on directing people to prepare supplies, ensuring both market demand and stable prices. However, the agricultural sector also advises livestock farmers to carefully consider their options and avoid expanding too quickly without established sales channels.

Rising chicken prices not only bring profits to farmers but also contribute to job creation and stabilize the rural economy . If the market remains stable and disease prevention measures are well maintained, the province's poultry industry promises a successful season, contributing to ensuring a safe and abundant food supply for consumers during the upcoming year-end and Lunar New Year holidays.
