* Lunar New Year 2024 falls around the middle of the second week of February 2024. This is also the time when pork consumption demand is strongest in the year. The question is, with the low rate of pig herd restoration, will there be a shortage of pork supply at the end of this year and Lunar New Year 2024?
Regarding this, according to Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the livestock situation of enterprises and farms is quite stable. The total pig herd of the whole country is currently about 28.6 - 28.7 million, basically meeting the domestic consumption demand for pork and pork products in the last months of the year and the upcoming Lunar New Year.
In addition, from now until October every year is the period when businesses and breeders restore their herds to ensure the time for selling.
Also on this issue, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong - Chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association analyzed that the livestock structure has changed, farmers' farms only account for 20 - 30% of the total pig herd in the country; companies account for 70 - 80% of the total herd.
Accordingly, based on market demand, large livestock enterprises will have reasonable supply calculations. Therefore, people can be completely assured about the commercial pork market at the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year.
