On the morning of April 10, 2025, domestic rice prices recorded a slight increase of 50 to 200 VND/kg for some varieties. The market in the Mekong Delta region became active again, with a fairly stable trading volume, especially raw rice and fresh rice prices increased compared to the beginning of the week.

In localities such as An Giang, Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and Cai Be (Tien Giang), the amount of imported goods has improved. Warehouses have asked to buy regularly, especially for fragrant rice varieties. Rice prices in the region remain stable, without strong fluctuations. In particular, raw rice OM 5451 recorded a slight increase, reaching 9,600 - 9,800 VND/kg. OM 380, IR 504 and OM 18 varieties continued to be traded in the range of 7,800 - 9,500 VND/kg. Finished rice IR 504 remained at 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg, while Nang Hoa 9 rice fluctuated from 6,550 - 6,750 VND/kg.

At retail markets in An Giang, prices of rice remain stable. Regular rice retails for around VND15,000 - 16,000/kg. Fragrant rice is priced between VND18,000 - 22,000/kg. Nang Nhen rice has the highest price, reaching VND28,000/kg. Japanese rice, Jasmine rice and Huong Lai rice continue to maintain prices between VND18,000 and VND22,000/kg.

The glutinous rice market has not changed much. The price of fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice is traded at around 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg. Three-month dried glutinous rice remains at 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg.

By-product prices today are relatively stable. Bran increased slightly to about 5,800 VND/kg, broken rice 3-4 reached 6,800 VND/kg. Fragrant broken rice is still traded at 7,100 - 7,300 VND/kg, and rice husk is traded around 800 - 900 VND/kg.

Regarding fresh rice, the market recorded an improvement in many localities. In Bac Lieu, many deposits were made for rice, the price of fragrant rice remained stable, and the price of ST rice continued to increase. In Soc Trang, farmers offered high prices, and transactions took place regularly. However, in Can Tho, transactions were slow because high offers made buyers cautious. In An Giang and Long An, offers increased slightly but the quantity of goods was not much, so transactions also slowed down.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, OM 5451 rice increased by 200 VND today, to 6,200 - 6,400 VND/kg. Other varieties such as Dai Thom 8, OM 18 and Nang Hoa 9 remained stable at 6,550 - 7,000 VND/kg. IR 50404 and OM 380 rice continued to trade in the range of 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg.

Rice price today April 10, 2025: Domestic price increased slightly

In the export market, Vietnamese rice continues to maintain its competitive advantage. 25% broken rice is currently priced at $370/ton, while 5% broken rice is priced at $399/ton – the highest among exporting countries. Meanwhile, Thailand’s 5% broken rice fell to $394/ton, India’s fell to $376/ton, and Pakistan’s slightly increased to $391/ton.

The US has just announced a new import tax effective from April 9, which has severely affected countries exporting rice to this market, including Vietnam. Accordingly, Vietnam will be subject to a tax rate of 46%, Thailand 36%, India 26% and Pakistan 29%. This makes rice exporting enterprises worry about losing market share in the largest market in the Western Hemisphere.

Meanwhile, the price of 5% broken rice from Thailand fell to $394 per ton, down $2 from the previous day. India's fell more sharply, down $4 to $376 per ton. In contrast, Pakistan's rose slightly to $391 per ton.

According to the Economic Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), the US is the largest importer of rice in the Western Hemisphere. Since the 1980s, Thailand has been the largest foreign supplier of rice, mainly fragrant rice varieties.

In 2024, Thailand exported nearly 850,000 tons of rice to the US, nearly three times more than India, the second-largest country. Vietnam ranked third, followed by Pakistan. However, all four countries were hit with new tariffs: 26% for India, 46% for Vietnam and 29% for Pakistan, making the prospect of exporting to the US more difficult.
