According to Can Tho Newspaper, the price of rice and many other agricultural products is no longer as high as last year, while the price of fertilizer has been increasing continuously for the past three months. Compared to the beginning of 2025 and the same period last year, the price of many types of fertilizer has increased significantly, putting great pressure on farmers.
Specifically, the prices of inorganic fertilizers such as DAP and Urea recorded the sharpest increase, from several tens to several hundreds of thousands of VND for each 50kg bag. NPK, potassium and phosphate fertilizers also increased, but at a smaller rate. The reason comes not only from domestic supply and demand but also from the influence of world prices, because Vietnam still has to import many types of fertilizers and raw materials for production. The prices of input materials such as electricity, gasoline, labor, transportation, etc. also increased and remained high, pushing up domestic fertilizer prices.
The import of some types of fertilizers is difficult and costly, combined with many layers of intermediaries, which have significantly increased the price to consumers. This not only affects farmers but also causes difficulties for fertilizer businesses and retailers. Everyone hopes that the price will soon cool down to reduce the burden.
Farmers are worried as rising fertilizer prices have led to increased production costs for rice and crops, while output prices have decreased. Declining profits have put production at risk. In addition, the lack of capital makes it even more difficult for them to cope, especially when supply stores limit credit sales or only allow partial credit.
People want the authorities to take measures to reduce the prices of fertilizers and agricultural materials, while ensuring stable output for rice and agricultural products, helping people feel secure in production. Strengthening market inspection and control is also necessary to prevent counterfeit and poor quality goods.
In addition, training programs and instructions for farmers to apply science and technology, use fertilizers properly, and prevent pests and diseases effectively will help reduce investment costs, increase productivity and income in the current difficult context.
