Pepper price today June 23, 2025: Lowest level in the past year

At the end of last week, pepper prices in key domestic regions dropped sharply from 12,000 to 14,000 VND/kg, marking the lowest level since the end of May 2024. In Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces, prices decreased by 13,000 and 12,000 VND/kg, respectively. Gia Lai province's price decreased by 14,000 VND/kg. The Southeast region including Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc all decreased by 14,000 VND/kg compared to last week.

Pepper prices fell sharply last week amid rising geopolitical tensions, especially the conflict between Israel and Iran. This development has raised investors’ concerns about the risk of disruption to the global supply chain and put pressure on the commodity market.

The instability has caused the US dollar to appreciate, while financial speculative capital has shifted to higher-yielding investment channels such as gold and oil. This has made agricultural products such as pepper less attractive, causing prices to fall sharply.

In addition, trade tensions, especially the imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the US and instability in the Middle East, have also caused container shipping rates to increase sharply. This has put additional pressure on Vietnamese import-export businesses in the context of volatile global markets.

At a press conference on June 19, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, said that many businesses in China and other countries are accelerating exports to the US to take advantage of the time before the new tax takes effect. In this situation, he recommended that Vietnamese businesses proactively monitor and adjust their business plans.

Mr. Hai also noted that businesses need to carefully review the terms of transportation and logistics contracts to limit risks, especially in the event of incidents such as late arrival of ships or maritime security issues. Consideration should also be given to using alternative transportation routes, such as intermodal rail to Europe, to diversify transportation options.
