Setting a new peak
In the trading session on September 3rd, the price of SJC gold bars across most brands increased by 2.8 million VND/ounce for both buying and selling. Specifically, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) listed gold bars at 131.9 million VND/ounce for buying and 133.4 million VND/ounce for selling. Brands such as DOJI and PNJ also listed similar prices.
9999 gold rings also followed the upward trend. During the day, 9999 gold rings at SJC were sold at 128 million VND/ounce and bought at 125.5 million VND/ounce, an increase of 3 million VND/ounce compared to before the holiday. The difference between buying and selling prices reached 2.5 million VND/ounce. Tin Thanh Duy Mong and Kim Tin Duy Mong stores listed gold rings at 116.7 million VND/ounce for selling and 114.8 million VND/ounce for buying. Rong Vang store listed the buying price at 115.5 million VND/ounce and the selling price at 117.5 million VND/ounce.
Shops advise buyers to visit the counter in person or contact the store to get an accurate price quote, as gold prices are currently being updated and adjusted constantly.
Along with the rising domestic gold prices, world gold prices have also reached a new peak. Currently, world gold prices are trading at $3,540.6 USD/ounce. If converted using the Vietcombank exchange rate, world gold prices are equivalent to approximately 114.9 million VND/ounce. Compared to world gold prices, SJC gold bars are 18.5 million VND/ounce higher, while gold rings are 13.1 million VND/ounce higher. This is considered a significant price difference and poses considerable risk for gold buyers at the present time.
Compared to the price of gold at the same time last week, August 27th, each SJC gold bar has increased by 5.4 million VND; gold rings have increased by 6.4 million VND/ounce. Compared to the beginning of 2025, specifically January 1st, 2025, SJC gold bars have increased by 49.2 million VND/ounce; 9999 gold rings have also increased by 43.8 million VND/ounce. If an investor bought gold at the beginning of the year and resold it at the present time, after deducting the buy-sell difference of approximately 1.5 million VND/ounce, the investor would be making a profit of approximately 47.7 million VND/ounce for SJC gold, and similarly, about 42.3 million VND/ounce for gold rings.
Strengthening gold management
Unlike the bustling markets in other localities, despite the increase in gold prices, buying and selling activity in Hue has not seen any sudden surge. The owner of a gold shop at Dong Ba Market said that purchasing power at his shop has not increased in recent days, with buying and selling volumes remaining fairly balanced.
Similarly, the DOJI Hue leadership also stated that while demand sometimes exceeded market demand, the difference was insignificant. The store is still ensuring sufficient gold supply for the market.
Ms. Dinh Thi Lan Anh from Thuan Hoa ward shared: “If you only consider gold as a savings channel, then the increase in gold prices won't cause much pressure. Instead of buying 5 phân to 1 chỉ (unit of weight) each month to save, now you can buy smaller amounts or save for a few months before buying. Gold shops also understand the market well by offering many products with small weights of 1, 2, or 3 phân, so saving with gold isn't too difficult.”
