At the press conference, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications received a request to inform about the initial results of verifying the content related to TikToker VML's post on social media showing that he was "kicked out of a restaurant because he was in a wheelchair".
Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications Nguyen Thi Mai Huong said that the unit has received information related to the above incident. Currently, the Department of Information and Communications Inspectorate is verifying the incident with relevant parties to resolve the incident in the spirit of "understanding and reason".
"If there are violations, they will be handled according to regulations, but humanity must also be shown," said Ms. Huong.
The leader of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications shared that after the incident, whether TikToker VML is punished or not, this is still a lesson for social network users to learn from, from which they need to improve their responsibility when participating in the online environment.
"When the verification results are available, the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications will widely inform news agencies and newspapers," Ms. Huong emphasized.
Previously, the online community was "in an uproar" when TikToker VML posted on his personal page with content showing that he and his girlfriend were "chased" out of the restaurant by the owner of a pho restaurant on Nam Ngu Street (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi) because they were in a wheelchair.
After VML's post, many people criticized the restaurant. However, many people were skeptical about the authenticity of the information.
