Close monitoring from shore to sea

Việt NamViệt Nam30/08/2023

As the locality with the largest fishing fleet in the province and a large fishing ground with 1,935 fishing vessels and more than 10,900 workers. This is a favorable condition for developing the fisheries economy , but also creates many difficulties in the management and control of fishing vessels in the area.

Faced with that situation, Phuoc Loc Border Guard Station (La Gi) has assigned tasks to each officer and soldier to increase the frequency of patrols and strictly control at the estuary, promptly grasp full information about fishing vessels to detect, prevent, and handle them from the beginning, not allowing local fishing vessels to violate foreign waters.

In the bustling scene of boats entering and leaving the port area, officers and soldiers of the Border Control Station are actively coordinating with the La Gi Fisheries Control Station to not only check the documents and procedures for vehicles entering and leaving the port at the Fisheries Control Representative Office according to regulations, but also board each vehicle to check and control the actual exploitation conditions; warn captains to strictly declare when entering and leaving the fishing port, record and submit logbooks and exploitation reports according to regulations; resolutely not allow departure without sufficient procedures, documents and equipment as well as strictly handle violations.

Lieutenant Colonel Ho Anh Tuan - Head of Phuoc Loc Border Guard Station said: Phuoc Loc Border Guard Station has assigned soldiers to be on duty at the Coastal Station system to monitor the journey 24/24 hours to receive, process, and provide information on journey monitoring data to strictly control the loss of signal of VMS devices or warnings of crossing the boundary of Vietnam's sea during fishing vessel operations. From there, there will be notifications to vehicle owners, promptly taking corrective and handling measures. Specifically, at 07:40 on February 13, 2023, through the fishing vessel monitoring device, a case of fishing vessel BTh-99064-Ts, capacity of 500 Cv (owned by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung, Ward 4, Phuoc Hoi as the ship owner and captain), was detected exploiting seafood outside Vietnam's sea. We urgently took action, using all means to immediately contact the captain to force the fishing boat BTh-99064-Ts to return to Vietnamese waters for exploitation. Thanks to that, by 2:00 p.m. the same day, the competent authority confirmed that the fishing boat was in Vietnamese waters.

Not only doing a good job of monitoring the situation at sea, Phuoc Loc Border Guard Station also proactively coordinates with sectors and localities, arranging forces in each area to monitor and supervise especially high-risk fishing vessels that frequently move fishing grounds, anchor, and depart from ports outside the province to firmly grasp the activities of these fishing vessels.

With the drastic participation of the entire political system, including the continuous efforts of each officer and soldier of Phuoc Loc Border Guard Station, it has contributed to gradually preventing and minimizing the situation of fishing boats and fishermen in the town violating foreign waters. From September 2022 to now, there have been no cases of fishing boats and fishermen in the town violating foreign waters being arrested or handled.
