On the evening of June 21st, representatives from the management board of TN pickleball court (located on Thong Nhat Street, Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) confirmed that the incident occurred at their court.
The victim has been identified as Mr. HH (51 years old), a local resident.
Initial information indicates that at approximately 4 PM on the same day, Mr. HH participated in a pickleball game with others at the court. At that time, many nearby courts also had people practicing and competing.
During the match, Mr. HH ran towards the net to prepare to return the ball when he suddenly collapsed on the court. Those present immediately rushed to his aid. According to the court representative, first aid was administered promptly, and medical personnel quickly arrived to assist. However, the victim did not survive.
Following the incident, the TN pickleball court management stated that they have extended their condolences to the victim's family and will continue to review emergency response plans to ensure a safer sporting environment.
The Vung Tau ward police are investigating the cause of the incident. The pickleball court will also temporarily cease operations to cooperate with the authorities in resolving the matter.
This incident once again highlights the need for proactive health risk prevention when participating in high-intensity sports. Doctors warn that excessive physical activity can trigger strokes or other dangerous cardiovascular events. High-risk groups include people with underlying conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, and those who do not regularly exercise.
