Natural scenery associated with legends

Located about 20km south of Nha Trang, Suoi Tien scenic spot has a wild, beautiful natural landscape with many unique rocks, waterfalls, caves and cool streams. Suoi Tien originates from Hon Ba range, flowing along the plains, passing through many canyons and valleys. The stream winds through rocky rapids, creating a romantic scene. The upstream area has rugged terrain with layers of rocks stacked on top of each other, polished by the stream water over time to create many unique shapes. Around the stream is a primeval forest with many green ancient trees. Ho Tien is a part of Suoi Tien, this is a natural lake formed by large and small rocks blocking the stream. The water in Ho Tien is clear, cool, and you can see the bottom with white sand and small fish. Along Suoi Tien stream, there are other beautiful scenes such as: Elephant footprints; giant foot; Tien chess board; Tien cave... all have unique beauty and are associated with folk legends.

In ancient folklore, there is a song that says: "The water of Suoi Tien flows slowly/The fairies go, leaving behind a mossy chessboard/The clouds drift day by day with the stream/The steadfast stone still hopes day and night..." . Legend has it that long ago, a giant traveled the human world and stopped to rest at Suoi Tien. But that year, there was a drought, the stream was dry without a drop of water, so he prayed to the fairies for rain to fall into the stream. His prayer came true, the sky brought dark clouds, the wind blew strongly, causing the giant's belt hanging on an ancient tree branch to wrap around and stick to a large rock on the bank of the stream. Along the stream, there were large flat rocks where the fairies often came down to play chess; the traces of the giant's feet were explained by folklore as being due to the giant's carelessness, slipping and falling, so one of his feet pressed against the rock, while his hand clung to the cliff so hard that the rocks fell into the sea, turning into Hon Chong, and at Hon Chong there is still a rock with the mark of a giant's hand. The elephant footprints were left by the fairies who rode elephants to play here...

Need to be rated and protected

According to Mr. Le Van Hoa - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Suoi Tien scenic spot is not only valuable in terms of landscape but also has historical and cultural significance through folk tales and events related to the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism of the army and people of Khanh Hoa. In terms of landscape, Suoi Tien has majestic and beautiful scenery located in the middle of a mountain and forest ecosystem with lush and diverse vegetation. This place has long been a place for people and tourists to visit, rest and relax.

It is known that the downstream of Suoi Tien is currently being exploited by a company for tourism activities with an area of over 12 hectares. Other areas are still being operated spontaneously, lacking strict management, so many places are facing pollution from waste left by locals and tourists; the encroachment on the beautiful landscapes and ecosystems here is still quietly taking place. To preserve and promote the cultural and historical values of Suoi Tien, on April 23, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Monuments Conservation Center issued a document proposing to establish a dossier to rank Suoi Tien. Accordingly, Suoi Tien has been included in the inventory of relics according to the decision of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, so establishing a scientific dossier to consider ranking it as a provincial relic is appropriate. However, during the process of preparing documents, it is necessary to coordinate with relevant agencies and units to research and review relevant plans to ensure that the determination of the protected area does not overlap with other plans; for areas currently being exploited for tourism, it is necessary to carefully consider the development orientation to delimit the protection area appropriately.
