Specifically, in a blog post on Tuesday, Google's parent company, Alphabet, stated that ads will appear in the "sponsored" section of AI Overviews based on the relevance and information of the question.

Google is looking to expand its dominance by shifting traditional search advertising to AI technology. This is expected to boost advertising sales, a key source of revenue for the US-based tech giant.
Google reported a 13% increase in advertising revenue, reaching $61.7 billion in the first quarter ending March 31 of this year. The company said it will continue to experiment with and explore new ad formats, seeking feedback from advertisers.

Last week, at the I/O developer conference, Alphabet presented how they are building AI into their business operations, including the Gemini chatbot and improvements to Google's market-dominant but vulnerable search engine.
According to Alphabet, with the Overviews AI feature, users will still ask questions in the traditional Google Search. Google will then provide the answer directly, along with advertisements for related products, instead of providing links to relevant informational or news websites.
