Send your heart into the branch, send your thoughts into the tree.

(Baohatinh.vn) - Bonsai is not just a hobby, but also a place to express thoughts and patience through each shape and form. For bonsai enthusiasts in Ha Tinh, each creation is a journey of artistic creation.

Since ancient times, bonsai has been considered an elegant hobby of the Vietnamese people, once ranked among the four artistic pursuits: "First, calligraphy; second, painting; third, ceramics; fourth, ornamental plants." It's not simply about caring for a potted plant; this hobby is the culmination of patience, aesthetic sense, and a philosophy of living in harmony with nature. Each style and shape of the tree is like a story "written" by time, where the enthusiast expresses their reflections on life and their resilience in the face of life's changes.

Each bonsai artwork bears the unique mark of its creator.

Driven by a love of nature and a passion for creativity, after more than 15 years of cultivation, Phan Van Viet's garden (Tung Lam village, Thach Xuan commune) now boasts thousands of bonsai trees in various shapes and styles. From variegated fir, hibiscus, water jasmine, and fragrant cypress to banyan, fig, and juniper, each type of tree is shaped by Viet into unique and unusual forms.

Creating a unique bonsai requires not only skillful hands and an eye for aesthetics, but also strict criteria: ancient, unusual, and beautiful. This means the tree must be old, have an unusual shape, and possess a harmonious beauty. Behind these seemingly rigid criteria lies a quiet, creative journey. Each branch bending and shaping requires meticulous consideration. Some tree shapes take Mr. Viet decades to achieve, while others require starting over from scratch because of a single unsatisfactory step.

Each bonsai tree is a work of art created from the meticulousness, skill, and imagination of the grower.

Driven by passion, dedication, and patience in shaping each tree, every bonsai enthusiast finds their own "soulmate" in the world of bonsai. For Mr. Tran Quoc Hieu (village 15, Cam Xuyen commune) - Chairman of the 38 Bonsai Club, the Juniper bonsai is a type of tree that brings him much creative inspiration. He always believes that caring for a bonsai tree is not just about nurturing a tree, but also about cultivating patience, sacrificing time and effort to wait for its beauty to mature over the years.

Creating a beautiful bonsai tree requires meticulous effort from the grower.

Currently, Mr. Hieu owns a collection of over 1,000 bonsai trees with diverse styles, from sturdy upright forms and graceful horizontal shapes to artistic, soaring forms. Some trees impress with their ancient, gnarled trunks; others captivate with the softness and harmony of their foliage and branches.

Tran Quoc Hieu's collection of Juniper bonsai trees includes some that are decades old.

Each bonsai tree represents a journey from collecting and creating the initial form to shaping and caring for it. This perseverance creates aesthetic value and serves as a repository of time, effort, and quiet passion. “Making bonsai isn’t just about bending branches and pruning; it’s a whole process of observation and accumulating experience. You have to understand the tree and its form to create a soulful shape. Playing with bonsai is like collecting antiques; the older the tree, the more valuable it becomes. But old forms are difficult to manipulate, and creating a beautiful shape requires great patience and experience,” shared Mr. Tran Quoc Hieu.

For bonsai enthusiasts, the most enjoyable aspect is the moments of letting their minds wander with the "rhythm" of nature, where flowers, plants, and landscapes are miniaturized within the garden. There, every curve and every cut is not just a technique, but also a careful consideration and restraint, teaching people to slow down and find peace. It is for this reason that bonsai cultivation is not simply about visual pleasure, but more importantly, a journey to find harmony between humanity and nature.

From private gardens, the hobby of bonsai has gradually become a bridge connecting people with the same passion in Ha Tinh . Driven by the need for interaction and learning, many bonsai clubs have been formed, bringing together bonsai enthusiasts in the area. They come together to share experiences, exchange techniques, and appreciate the beauty of each tree's shape. These gatherings and discussions around bonsai trees contribute to creating a unique cultural space in today's life.

The bonsai exhibitions organized by the 38 Bonsai Club attract a large number of bonsai enthusiasts.

The ancients often said, "Raising fish nurtures the heart, raising birds cultivates the spirit, and nurturing trees cultivates the soul." For bonsai enthusiasts, caring for their trees is also a way to cultivate patience and self-regulation. Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, moments of quiet reflection beside a bonsai tree help people find balance. Each bend, each cut is not just a technique, but also a form of restraint, a way of learning to slow down and appreciate enduring values. From these small branches, bonsai enthusiasts create a masterpiece while quietly nurturing a unique way of life, simple yet enduring over time.
