Last weekend, amidst the crowds of shoppers and the vibrant atmosphere of the shopping mall, the main lobby area of Vincom Mega Mall Ocean City (Nghia Tru commune, Hung Yen province) unexpectedly fell silent as the sounds of traditional Vietnamese opera filled the air during the art program "The Soul of Vietnam in the Heart of Hoi An".

Open performance spaces in shopping malls have brought traditional arts closer to the public. Now, traditional Vietnamese opera and puppetry are not only performed on specialized stages but have also become an integral part of weekend activities for families, groups of young people, and tourists.
By participating in this event, in addition to enjoying classic Cheo opera excerpts such as "Quan Am Thi Kinh," "Thi Mau Goes to the Pagoda," "Ly Truong Me Dop," "Suy Van," "The Fortune Teller Goes to the Market," "The Witch Fears Ghosts," etc., viewers also have the opportunity to interact with artists, learn about ancient melodies, or try their hand at role-playing in folk plays.

At a recent performance, the excerpt "Lý trưởng Mẹ Đốp" by artist and distinguished educator Thảo Hiền attracted the attention of a large number of young viewers. Many were encountering Chèo for the first time but were still captivated by its charming humor, witty dialogue, and the depth of folk culture.
Also participating in the program are People's Artist Thuy Ngan, Meritorious Artist Doan Vinh, and other artists such as Thanh Huyen, Thu Thuy, Vu Hoang… The combination of experienced and young artists contributes to the continuity in the journey of preserving and spreading traditional art.

Previously, in this space, the "Water Pavilion Viewing" program, featuring a miniature water pavilion, water surface, and moving puppets created by artist Phan Thanh Liêm, also made a strong impression on the public. The sounds of drums, gongs, flutes, and familiar folk tales resonated with a wide range of audiences. Adults felt like they were reliving their childhood, while young children enjoyed watching the puppets' movements.
Regarding the organization of the "Vietnamese Cultural Heritage" experiential activities series, Vincom Mega Mall Ocean City Director Nguyen Thai Huyen said that the unit aims to build a shopping mall that is not only a place for shopping and entertainment but also a space for connecting the community and spreading Vietnamese cultural values. The programs are designed in an open manner, increasing direct experiences so that the public can access heritage more closely and naturally.

Located within the Ocean Park 2 urban area, Vincom Mega Mall Ocean City is a multi-functional complex comprising a shopping mall, cinema, Vinplace convention center, and theater. The inclusion of space for traditional arts demonstrates the growing trend of integrating culture into modern urban life. The presence of traditional Vietnamese opera (cheo), water puppetry, and other folk art forms in public spaces contributes to creating more opportunities for the community, especially young people, to access heritage.
According to the organizers, the "Vietnamese Cultural Heritage" experiential activities will continue to expand with programs such as Ca Tru singing, Hat Xam singing, performances of traditional musical instruments, and Te Tieu puppet shows. In addition to performances, interactive and experiential activities will also be enhanced to help domestic and international audiences better understand the traditional cultural values of Vietnam.
