Good example of the elderly for the community

At the age of 68, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Ward 4B (Quang Hanh Ward), is still diligent, responsible and passionate about her work for the community.

Despite her old age, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Ward 4B, is still devoted to her duties and work.

After 39 years of working in the medical field, working at the Provincial Mental Health Hospital, in 2013, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My retired. But retiring does not mean resting, with her personal prestige and sense of responsibility, she was elected to hold many roles in the community such as: Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell, Head of the Front Work Committee, and from 2018 to present, Secretary of the Party Cell and Head of Ward 4B. Before the merger of the two-level government model, she also held the role of Vice President of the Quang Hanh Ward Elderly Association, Head of the Senior Retirement Club, Head of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club of Ward 4B. No matter what position she holds, she always shows dedication, dynamism and wholeheartedness for the people.

With nearly 300 households and about 1,200 people, Ward 4B is a densely populated area, giving rise to many social problems. Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My said: I always clearly identify the role of grassroots cadres as a bridge between the Party, the government and the people. I directly go to every alley, knock on every door, grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people to promptly resolve difficulties, not allowing petitions and complaints to arise beyond the level. I assess that mass mobilization and propaganda work must be given top priority, carried out through the radio system, residential group meetings, thematic conferences... according to the principle of "People know, people discuss, people do, people inspect" then any difficult task can be completed.

Thanks to that dedication, Ward 4B always maintains consensus and solidarity between the government, organizations and people. The outstanding result is that the ward continuously achieves the title of "Cultural Ward", 98.5% of households achieve "Cultural Family", 5/5 residential groups achieve "Cultural Residential Group". Movements such as "Green Sunday", "My house has a fire extinguisher, no tiger cage", "Garbage-free, clean, safe ward"... are all effectively implemented and receive high consensus.

Not only is she an exemplary leader, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My is also a positive inspiration in the elderly community. With the motto "Sing for fun, practice regularly for health", she and the Standing Committee of the Elderly Association of Quang Hanh Ward (old) established 17 "Grandparents and Grandchildren" clubs in the neighborhoods, organizing cultural and sports activities attracting nearly 2,000 members to participate. Sports such as health care, badminton, and volleyball not only help the elderly improve their health but also act as a bridge to the community, helping to spread a positive and healthy lifestyle. She also regularly promotes and encourages members to live happily, healthily, and usefully following the example of Uncle Ho. The spirit of "Old age - Good example" has since spread widely, contributing to building the image of modern elderly - exemplary and responsible.

Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My was awarded a certificate of merit by the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board for her achievements in the movement of elderly people participating in building the grassroots political system, period 2019-2024.

Under the leadership of the Party Cell with 29 party members, with Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My as Secretary, over the past 5 years, Ward 4B has always been the leading unit in patriotic emulation movements, and all socio-economic development targets have been achieved and exceeded. Especially in 2023, implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, she mobilized people, connected with philanthropists, and donated more than 131 million VND to build a Great Unity house for Mr. Hua Giang Xinh (78 years old), a poor household in Group 4, Ward 4B. The project not only helps his family have a stable place to live but also clearly demonstrates the spirit of solidarity and mutual love in the residential area. Or like the fact that she stood up to make an urgent appeal for 9 households in Ward 4B that suffered damage due to storm No. 3 (yagi) in September 2024, which blew off their roofs. In just one day, 40 million VND was mobilized to immediately support households.

In addition, the "Green Sunday" movement is maintained regularly, raising people's awareness of environmental protection. In the field of culture and sports, Ward 4B also won many high prizes at ward and city level competitions, recognizing the close, decisive and flexible direction of the leader. With her persistent and effective contributions for many years, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh My was awarded a certificate of merit by the People's Committee of Cam Pha City (old) and the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board for her outstanding achievements in building the grassroots political system and the elderly movement.
