The Northern Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Station forecasts that on the night of June 1st, Hanoi will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms; the weather will be mild and cool, with the lowest temperature ranging from 27-29 degrees Celsius. On June 2nd, Hanoi will be hot and sunny, with some areas experiencing intense heat. The highest temperatures in the central and northern parts of the city will reach 36-38 degrees Celsius; in the southern and western parts, 35-37 degrees Celsius.

On June 3rd, the intensity of the heatwave continued to increase, with maximum temperatures commonly reaching 36-38 degrees Celsius. The period of intense heat, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, lasted from 12 PM to 4 PM daily.

The meteorological agency notes that the temperature forecast in heatwave reports and the actual temperature felt outdoors can differ by 2-4 degrees Celsius, or even more, depending on the surface conditions such as concrete, asphalt, glass windows, etc.

From the night of June 3rd to June 5th-6th, Hanoi will be affected by a low-pressure area in the west combined with weak wind convergence at high altitudes. The weather will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms; sunny during the day, with some areas experiencing hot weather; southeasterly winds at level 2.

From June 6th to 8th, the wind convergence weakened, and the hot low-pressure area in the West continued to develop and expand towards the Southeast. Therefore, Hanoi experienced no rain, with hot and sunny days, some days with intense heat; winds were from the South to Southwest at level 2. From June 9th, the city experienced showers and thunderstorms, and the current heatwave is likely to end.

Regarding the weather trend for June, Dinh Huu Duong, Head of the Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting Department (Northern Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Station), predicted that Hanoi is likely to experience 2-3 periods of hot weather and intense heat. The average monthly temperature will be 1 to 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the multi-year average; while the multi-year average for June in Hanoi is 29.1-30 degrees Celsius.

Also in June, Hanoi is likely to experience a period of heavy rain towards the end of the month. This is also the time when the city experiences an increased frequency of thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, localized heavy rain, and strong gusts of wind, especially on days affected by the strengthening continental cold high-pressure system compressing the low-pressure trough.

In the South China Sea, there is a possibility of 1-2 typhoons or tropical depressions forming in June, but they are unlikely to directly affect the weather in Hanoi.

Mr. Dinh Huu Duong warned that hot and intensely hot weather combined with low humidity increases the risk of fires and explosions in residential areas due to increased electricity demand; it also increases the risk of forest fires. Furthermore, hot weather can cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heatstroke in people who work, travel, or are exposed to high temperatures for extended periods.

Local authorities, relevant agencies, and the public need to closely monitor weather forecasts and proactively prepare preventive measures during hot weather as well as when thunderstorms occur.
