VTV.vn - In addition to clearing to ensure traffic safety and classifying weak trees to transfer to nurseries for care, Hanoi City has mobilized forces to rebuild more than 4,000 fallen trees.
Storm No. 3 has caused serious impacts and damage in many localities. Hanoi has more than 40,000 fallen trees and broken branches. Of these, more than 11,000 urban
trees (trees planted on sidewalks, streets, traffic islands, median strips, other public places, etc.) managed by the city were uprooted. To save the fallen tamarind tree, workers had to remove all the leaves and prune the branches. Only then can the tree concentrate water and nutrients to nourish the trunk, and also to prevent evaporation through the leaves, increasing the tree's survival rate. The longer the time from when the tree falls until it is replanted, the lower the survival rate, so to save as many trees as possible, we have to race against time. "If we leave it for too long, the sun will rise and the rain will fall, and if we don't cut the leaves, the tree will be very weak, so all workers and leaders try their best. We sleep very little but work hard," said Mr. Dinh Van Dan (Ha Thanh Construction Investment Consulting Joint Stock Company). "The company mobilized all rescue forces. We still replanted trees with a survival rate of 60% or more," said Mr. Hoang Cao Linh (Director of Ha Thanh Construction Investment Consulting Joint Stock Company).

Nearly 300 trees (1/10 of the trees) in Thong Nhat Park were also knocked down after storm No. 3. Rebuilding these tree stumps is not simply putting the trees back in their original positions, every small detail is taken into account. Canvas cables are used to lift the trees, protecting the bark from damage. The decades-old banyan tree is not only rebuilt, but also has to be lured so that the roots spread wider, making the tree healthier. All efforts are with the sole goal of saving each tree stump, especially the heritage trees. "Of the 18 heritage trees managed by the park, there are 2 heaviest trees. One is the Uncle Ho banyan tree and the other is the tree in the Indochina garden area. The Indochina tree broke in half and the broken part was also quite close to the base, so recovery will be very difficult. We will try our best to preserve the heritage parts that we are preserving", said Mr. Ma Kien Han (Deputy Director of Thong Nhat Park One Member Co., Ltd., Hanoi). To implement the city's plan to complete the replanting of fallen trees before September 20, in the past 10 days, the officers, workers and mechanics of Thong Nhat Park have put aside all family matters and are ready to take on the task. From these tree trunks, in the next 2-3 weeks, green shoots will sprout, and shade will return in 2-3 years, but re-erecting fallen trees is only a short-term task. In the long term, Hanoi needs to look back, calculate and choose more suitable urban trees that are more resistant to storms and winds to minimize risks and damage from natural disasters.
