Hanoi – Ideal autumn tourist destination

Autumn has long been considered a “specialty” of the capital Hanoi, not only because of its cool, pleasant weather, but also because of its romantic, peaceful beauty, bringing great attraction to domestic and foreign tourists. This is also the golden time for tourism in the capital to accelerate to reach the goal of welcoming 30 million visitors in 2025.

Golden season attracts tourists

Recently, Time Out Magazine voted Hanoi as the ideal destination to see autumn leaves, describing the capital of Vietnam as “having a very unique autumn”. This magazine suggested that visitors should walk around Hoan Kiem Lake to admire the typical red and yellow leaves, and join in the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival.

Previously, in 2024, CNN also voted Hanoi in the top 12 most attractive destinations in the world in autumn. The recognition of the world media shows the attractiveness of Hanoi autumn to international visitors.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in 2025, the capital's tourism industry will enter an acceleration phase with many products and events associated with autumn. This is the golden time for the capital to affirm its brand as a creative and sustainable destination, while creating new momentum for the goal of welcoming 30 million visitors throughout the year.

Vice President of Hanoi Tourism Association Nguyen Tien Dat said that in the cool weather of autumn, tourists can experience attractive night tour products, such as: Wearing traditional costumes to join the night tour "Decoding Thang Long Imperial Citadel"; walking in the grounds of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam to experience the night tour "The Quintessence of Confucianism"; experiencing the outdoor space at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square; or taking the double-decker bus "Hanoi City tour" to see the streets of the capital... In addition, the experiences of traveling to craft villages in Bat Trang, Duong Lam, Quang Phu Cau... with outdoor activities such as cycling, walking, exploring craft villages, are very suitable in the cool autumn weather.

According to Standing Committee member of the Vietnam Culinary Culture Association Le Thi Thiet, Hanoi's autumn also attracts tourists thanks to its cuisine.

“Hanoi has many delicious dishes typical of autumn, which can form attractive food tours. Tourists can also enjoy products made from green rice, rustic dishes with strong Hanoi flavor such as banh duc, bun rieu, bun oc or eat a hot bowl of pho…”, Ms. Le Thi Thiet suggested.

New product diversity

This year, to stimulate autumn tourism, Hanoi plans to organize many attractive events during the peak season. Typically, in September, there will be cultural and tourism events, such as: Hanoi Beverage Festival with the theme "Enjoy the Taste of Hanoi" at Trinh Cong Son walking street; Hanoi Ca Tru Festival at Hanoi Museum...

In addition, many events that have become trademarks for Hanoi autumn tourism are about to start, such as: Hanoi Autumn Festival, Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival, book exhibitions, outdoor concerts... held continuously from September to November, contributing to turning Hanoi into a "big stage" attracting millions of visitors.

In particular, this year, for the first time, the Autumn Fair is being held, scheduled to take place from October 20 to November 5 at the Vietnam Exhibition Center with the aim of stimulating consumption and promoting tourism in Hanoi.

A new point this year is the formation of many short-term regional tourism routes designed to suit the season. Typically, after experiencing Hanoi's autumn, visitors can go to Thai Nguyen to experience tea picking, explore Thai Hai Community Tourism Village - honored as the best tourist village in the world, or enjoy the ancient capital of Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh), visit Ha Long Bay with experiences on cruise ships and in caves.

In addition, the "Hanoi 5-gate" train route from Hanoi to Bac Ninh continues to be exploited, bringing a new feeling to tourists when sitting on the train passing through the streets covered with yellow leaves, enjoying the folk heritage of Quan Ho.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in September 2025, the capital is expected to welcome more than 4.17 million visitors, nearly double that of the same period in 2024, including nearly 667 thousand international visitors. This number shows the positive effect of the open visa policy, strongly promoting the image of Hanoi's autumn on international media channels.

The target for the fourth quarter of 2025 is that Hanoi will welcome over 12 million visitors, making an important contribution to the target of welcoming 30 million visitors in 2025. This is a sustainable growth rate, showing the growing attraction of Hanoi tourism.

To increase the attractiveness of Hanoi tourism at its peak, the capital's tourism industry has planned to launch the "Quintessence Convergence" communication campaign from now until the end of the year to introduce new products in 2025; increase promotion on national and international television and digital platforms.

Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said that the city continues to promote agricultural and rural tourism; community tourism associated with traditional culture; develop night tourism, adventure sports tourism. In particular, golf tourism, MICE tourism (tourism combining meetings, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, and awards) combined with the organization of political, social, cultural, and sports events are identified as the key points for Hanoi to increase the number of high-spending visitors.
