Hanoi leads the holiday travel trend
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, on the occasion of National Day September 2, 2024 alone, the capital welcomed more than 640,000 visitors, including about 33,000 international visitors. Revenue from tourists is estimated at more than VND 2,000 billion. This number is expected to increase even more in 2025 thanks to a series of events celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day and many cultural and artistic programs held throughout the city.
Destinations such as Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, Thang Long Imperial Citadel... are always among the most searched. In addition, Hanoi's Old Quarter with Hang Ma, Hang Dao, Hang Bong, colorful with flags and flowers, has also become a coordinate that attracts tourists from all over to check-in.
According to a survey, at this time, many 3-4 star hotels in the area around the old quarter and squares have been fully booked, even recording bookings right after the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year. This shows the great attraction of art programs, parades, and events in Hanoi.
In the high-end segment, 4-5 star hotels recorded an occupancy rate of up to 70% and still have a small number of rooms available for guests to book from now until the September 2 holiday. Hotels also plan to offer special services to guests booking during this holiday, such as a check-in corner with flags and flowers, a special September 2 set menu, and many other activities to celebrate the nation's important holiday and leave a mark in the hearts of guests.
Hanoi tourism leads to growth in northern provinces
Neighboring localities in the north also benefit significantly when Hanoi becomes a tourist attraction center. Quang Ninh province is expected to welcome about 300,000 visitors during the 4-day holiday, an increase of nearly 15% compared to 2024. Ninh Binh with the famous landscapes of Trang An and Tam Coc-Bich Dong also recorded a hotel booking rate of 80-90% before the holiday.
The “Hanoi-Ha Long-Ninh Binh” or “Hanoi-Sapa-Fansipan” tours are selling very well. This has been a familiar trend in recent years, but this year there is something new: tourists often choose to depart from Hanoi and then expand to northern destinations, combining urban exploration with experiencing nature.

This shows that Hanoi plays an important "gateway" role, creating leverage for the entire northern region to grow together, leading to the development of theme tourism groups and regional, provincial and local tourism.
Long-distance and international travel still has appeal
Although Hanoi and the north are bright spots, a large number of tourists still choose further destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc. A report from the Vietnam Tourism Association shows that domestic air tickets for September 2 have increased in pre-booking by 20-25%, with the Hanoi-Da Nang and Hanoi-Phu Quoc routes accounting for a high proportion.

In addition, the trend of going abroad during the holidays is also becoming more and more popular, especially among young people and well-off families. Tours to Bangkok, Singapore, Shanghai, Seoul, etc. are often fully booked about 2 weeks before the holiday, with Hanoi visitors accounting for more than 40% of the total number of visitors booking tours abroad during September 2.
Staycation and urban experience - new trends of Hanoi youth
Not everyone chooses to travel far for each trip. A large number of Hanoi residents tend to stay in the city or suburbs. 4-5 star hotels in the central area, resorts in Soc Son, Ba Vi... also recorded a sharp increase in room bookings.
Activities such as enjoying the cuisine of the Old Quarter, visiting the National Day exhibition, or simply walking around West Lake and checking in the flags and flowers of the streets have also become the choice of many people. This staycation trend reflects the need to enjoy the festive atmosphere without having to travel far, especially suitable for families with young children or the elderly.
Not only the management agencies, but also tourism businesses are doing well thanks to the September 2 holiday. Some companies have recorded a number of visitors many times higher than a normal weekend.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Chung, representative of Etrip4u - the leading flight ticket and travel combo booking application, commented: “National Day September 2nd this year is a special milestone. In early August alone, the number of customers booking tours for the holiday through our system increased by nearly 35% compared to last year. In addition to domestic tours, China and Southeast Asia product groups are also receiving more attention. This is a positive signal for the upcoming peak season at the end of the year.”

This shows that travel businesses not only benefit in the short term but also have the opportunity for long-term development, as people's travel habits are increasingly associated with holidays. The National Day on September 2, 2025 marks a strong transformation of tourism in Hanoi in particular and the North in general. With the explosion of many trends, from urban tourism, suburban resorts, to long-distance and international tourism - Hanoi is affirming its position as a central destination, becoming an indispensable meeting place during major holidays.
This year's National Day is not only a historic moment but also an important boost for the tourism industry, creating the premise for the peak season at the end of the year and beyond to 2026 with many new expectations.
