Two new Windows bugs are causing Chrome to malfunction.

A new bug on Windows is causing Chrome to frequently freeze, and the cause continues to be related to the Family Safety feature – a problem that has previously troubled users.

According to Neowin, Microsoft recently confirmed new issues related to the Google Chrome browser on both Windows 10 and 11. The cause has been identified as stemming from Family Safety – a feature designed to help parents control content and screen time for young children.

Many users have reported that Family Safety unexpectedly blocks Chrome for no apparent reason, causing frustration during use. Notably, Microsoft has also acknowledged two other bugs: one that causes the Family Safety feature to completely stop working, and another that causes Chrome to repeatedly freeze upon launch.

Currently, Microsoft has not announced a specific timeframe for a patch to fix the issue. In the meantime, users experiencing the problem can temporarily disable Family Safety or use an alternative browser to ensure uninterrupted workflow.

Microsoft's Family Safety feature – designed to help parents control their children's online activity – is currently experiencing a serious bug with Google Chrome. Specifically, the system is unable to execute browser blocking commands as configured, rendering the monitoring tool ineffective.

According to Microsoft, the reason lies in the fact that the list of blocked applications on their servers is outdated. Because it hasn't been updated in time to recognize the latest version of Chrome, the system is no longer able to block the browser as requested by parents.

Chrome is constantly experiencing bugs from Microsoft.

This means that even with permissions set, children can still open and use Chrome without any restrictions. Microsoft says it has acknowledged the issue and is updating the list to fix it as soon as possible.

An annoying bug is affecting Windows users when Family Safety is enabled: instead of blocking Chrome as intended, the browser crashes right from startup. This causes serious disruptions, especially for families using parental control features on their computers.

Normally, when a user tries to open a restricted application, Windows displays a permission request message saying, "You'll need to ask to use this app." However, in this case, Chrome didn't display any warning and was abruptly shut down, causing confusion and inconvenience for the user.

After investigation, Microsoft determined that the cause stemmed from the "Activity reporting" option in the Family Safety settings being disabled. When this option was turned off, the system did not process the blocking command correctly, leading to browser errors and immediate crashes. Microsoft stated that they are working to fix the issue and will release an update soon.

While awaiting the official update, Microsoft has suggested a temporary solution to fix the Chrome crashing issue. Users – especially parents – should access the Family Safety settings and re-enable the “Activity reporting” option. Re-enabling this feature will allow the browser to function normally and prevent sudden crashes upon startup.

A Microsoft representative stated that the company is actively investigating and will soon release a comprehensive patch for both related vulnerabilities. They also committed to providing further updates in the future to reassure users that they can continue using the Family Safety system without any disruption.

This incident serves as a reminder that even tools designed to enhance security and control can experience unintended conflicts. Ensuring compatibility between operating system features is essential to avoid negatively impacting the user experience.
