Hai Phong currently has about 2 million people, nearly 50% of whom live in the city and many have low incomes. Many old apartment buildings in the core urban area have degraded and need to be resolved. "The city pays special attention to social housing, has issued a resolution on this issue and is a leading locality in building social housing," said Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of Hai Phong City.
According to Mr. Tung, Hai Phong was assigned by the Prime Minister 14,500 social housing units in the 2021-2025 period, and has so far achieved the assigned plan. Social housing projects in the city are all large in area, have low population density, good living conditions, and are located near industrial parks and traffic intersections.
According to the Social Housing Development Project to 2030, Hai Phong aims to complete 33,500 houses for low- and middle-income households in urban areas, workers, and laborers in industrial parks by 2030.
