New town hall in Munich
As the capital of the wealthy state of Bavaria with the most glorious history in Germany, Munich is a city with typical cultural values at the national level, so every year this place attracts many tourists. Like other beautiful cities in Europe, Munich is covered with the splendor of the ancient architectural system. The old town in the center of Munich is the place where "the elite converge". When coming to Munich, you must definitely walk on Marienplatz square - the place where you often hear that when Bayern Munich football club is crowned, they gather here to celebrate with their fans.
Leaving the subway when it was getting dark, a Vietnamese friend who has been here for several years took us to our favorite bar in the old quarter as requested to enjoy German draft beer. As soon as we entered the bar, we were swept away by the sound of music and lively conversation. Each person had a 1-liter beer mug, "full of hands", and quickly joined in the rhythm of the bar. Indeed, the strong, cool beer taste was very suitable for the famous dishes of this region such as roast pork leg, sausage, pickled cabbage... We comfortably recharged our energy to prepare for tomorrow's "walking" tour to explore the center of ancient Munich.
Traditional German dishes
The warm rays of the morning sun ignited the excitement of the group members as they walked along the cobblestone streets in Munich's old town. From afar, the nearly 100m high bell towers of the Notre Dame Cathedral towered with their blue roofs. An equally prominent part of the cathedral was the large building with red tiled roofs that could accommodate thousands of people. This was also the place where many major events such as royal weddings and funerals took place and still serves as the center of Munich's cultural and religious life. Through many historical ups and downs and was destroyed in World War II, but with meticulous restoration and effective preservation efforts, this building has always been a source of pride for the people of Munich and has become a symbol of the city. We spent the late morning when the sky was clear to climb the bell tower to see Munich from above. This experience is quite "lucky" for tourists because on a sunny day, Munich seems to sparkle, the pointed roofs of many Gothic-style architectural works become even more splendid.
The old and new town halls are also prominent buildings when visiting Marienplatz square. The old town hall Altes Rathaus was built in the 15th century, in Gothic style. Although the area is small compared to the new town hall, the elegant and ancient beauty of this building makes everyone stop to admire. The architect Jörg von Halsbach who designed this old town hall is also the author of the masterpiece Notre Dame Cathedral. Currently, inside this building is a museum displaying funny toys such as dolls, cartoon characters...
New town hall in neo-Gothic style
Replacing the function of Altes Rathaus in 1874 was the new Neue Rathaus town hall with neo-Gothic architecture and a facade of more than 100m long. The image of the powerful Witelsbach dynasty decorated on the front of the building is enough for posterity to understand the power and contributions of the kings of this family to Munich. Thanks to their love of science and technology, and their appreciation of creativity and innovation, these Bavarian kings left behind a treasure trove of heritage, which are magnificent works for posterity. The new town hall has a towering clock tower in the middle and exquisite sculptures. Currently, most of the rooms of this building are still used as headquarters for government agencies, some businesses and as a venue for many major events in the city. There are some rooms for the purpose of introducing tourist information and sightseeing, visitors need to buy tickets to get specific instructions. There are many beautiful buildings that create a harmonious whole for the old town in the center of Munich. If you want to explore them in depth, you should spend time wandering the small streets.
To explore the city's everyday side, it is impossible not to mention the restaurants, small cafes or the market next to the square - where visitors can easily find cheese, sausages or taste wine. It is still the German character when all products and service styles are meticulous, careful, and trustworthy. Those things contribute to making the journey to Munich worthwhile and memorable for each of us.
