Tho Ha: Where broken pottery tells village stories
Walking along the small alleys in Tho Ha village, visitors will be attracted by the old brick walls, bearing a nostalgic and unique beauty. In particular, there are walls built interspersed with broken ceramic pieces.
Ancient brick walls in Tho Ha |
In the old days, when the pottery industry was still flourishing, craftsmen used imperfect pieces of pottery to build walls. This was not only an economical solution but also created a special architecture: These walls were not only very strong and durable, but also had the ability to insulate sound and heat, keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Each piece of broken pottery on that wall has its own story. It is the ingenuity, creativity and thrift of our ancestors. It shows how people here appreciate and make use of everything that the earth has given them.
Tho Ha communal house: A sacred place
In the sacred space of Tho Ha communal house, a national treasure is present: the communal house's votive door. Created in the 13th year of Chinh Hoa (1692) by the village elders and the people, this votive door is an artistic masterpiece made of wood, lacquered with gold and ceramic. With three layers of elaborate carvings of the four sacred animals, the four seasons and three main altars, the votive door not only has the function of separating the spiritual space from the ordinary life, but is also a highlight that highlights the sacredness of the sanctuary.
The immortal art of Tuong in Tho Ha
No one remembers exactly when the art of classical opera took root in Tho Ha. It is only known that through many generations, people have tirelessly passed on to each other the saying "Phi tuong bat thanh hoi" (Without tuong, there is no festival). This saying has become a proud affirmation that tuong is the soul of the festival here.
Ancient opera in Tho Ha is still preserved. |
Tho Ha Tuong is a traditional art form, deeply influenced by royal Tuong. The plays often tell stories about kings, mandarins and battles to protect justice, imbued with cultural and historical values. What is special here is that the actors are mainly farmers in the village. Although not professionally trained, they are very talented in acting and makeup, portraying characters with unique symbolic forms, from special makeup to each gesture, eyebrow raising, hand shaking. The Tuong stage is simple but flexible, with plays that can last for many nights.
In the context of modern society, Tho Ha ancient opera is at risk of being lost. However, with love and pride for their heritage, people still diligently preserve and pass on the torch to the next generation. Because for them: "Oaths do not need to be written down, just passed down by word of mouth to last longer than time". Thanks to that, the communal house roofs, pagoda roofs, ancient houses and folk art here are still preserved intact, becoming a priceless heritage for today's and tomorrow's descendants.
“Green Connection Journey” not only brings the audience to the majestic nature, but also opens small doors for us to see the warm hearts of people. Here, traditional values meet innovation, and each story, each house becomes a commitment to culture and the future. This is an inspiring journey about environmental protection and sustainable tourism development, where every small action can contribute to creating a greener future.
