With the theme "Cau River - Where the Source Converges," this year's Culture and Tourism Week is organized on a regional scale, with the participation of provinces in the Cau River basin. The event includes nearly 20 diverse activities, most notably: the opening ceremony on a floating stage in the middle of the Cau River on the evening of April 25th; a performance of typical intangible cultural heritage of ethnic groups in the Cau River basin with the theme "Impressive Source of Cau River Heritage" on the evening of April 26th; a Cau River basin OCOP regional specialty fair; an exhibition of paintings, photographs, and books; two seminars on investment and tourism promotion; and a series of vibrant cultural and sports activities.
At Song Cau Pedestrian Street in Bac Kan City – where the main stage for the opening ceremony was located – people have become accustomed to seeing groups of workers setting up the stage, sound system, and lighting day and night. Unlike events usually held in auditoriums or cultural centers, this time, the entire space for the opening night was extended into nature.
The floating stage on the Cau River – a cultural and historical symbol flowing through the area – is not only an artistic highlight but also demonstrates the creativity in organization and innovative approach of the locality in the final year before the merger.
Ms. Tran Thi Khanh Huyen, from Song Cau ward, Bac Kan city, excitedly shared: “For decades, this is the first time I've seen Bac Kan organize such a grand event. We often come to watch the stage being set up, and the stage is truly impressive being built on the Song Cau river. Even just the trial run and the actors' rehearsals have been stunning and impressive. I'm really looking forward to the opening night…”
Ms. Trieu Thi Lanh from Nguyen Thi Minh Khai ward, Bac Kan city, shared: "Yesterday, I went to watch the rehearsal and it felt like I was at some big festival in the lowlands. The stage was beautiful, the lighting was brilliant, and the sound was vibrant..."
At the riverside viewing area, many families and groups of young people arrived from late afternoon to secure a good spot. An atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm permeated the entire Cau River pedestrian street. Some people took photos, others livestreamed the preparation moments, and many children happily ran around the sparkling decorative lights.
According to the Organizing Committee, this year's opening night will feature professional artists, combined with a large number of amateur performers. The floating stage will be modernly designed with a high-standard sound and lighting system, a large LED screen, multi-layered lighting effects, smoke, fire, and unique mapping projection technology. The program's content will revolve around the theme "Cau River - Where the Source Converges," honoring the culture and people of Bac Kan and the provinces in the Cau River basin.
The Bac Kan Culture and Tourism Week 2025 is not only a cultural, artistic, and sporting event, but also a place to connect the community and express the pride and love of the people for their homeland. In the context of Bac Kan preparing to merge with Thai Nguyen, this is an even greater opportunity for the people of Bac Kan to preserve beautiful memories and affirm the identity of this land at the headwaters of the Cau River.
