Passing a resolution on merging provincial and communal levels
At the meeting, the People's Council of Can Tho City passed a Resolution on merging the provincial-level administrative units of Can Tho City, Hau Giang Province and Soc Trang Province into a new centrally-run city, called Can Tho City.
Accordingly, Can Tho city after the merger has a natural area of 6,360 km2, a population of 4,199,806 people, and 103 administrative units with 31 wards and 72 communes. The neighboring provinces after the merger are Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Ca Mau and An Giang. The political and administrative center is located in Can Tho city.
Thus, after the reorganization, 2 provinces will be reduced, 28 districts, towns and cities under the province will be terminated, and 160 communes, wards and towns will be reduced. This will contribute to streamlining the apparatus, saving the budget, increasing investment efficiency and developing socio-economic infrastructure...
Can Tho City People's Council also passed a resolution on merging commune-level administrative units. Currently, the number of commune-level administrative units before the arrangement is 80 commune-level administrative units (including: 36 communes, 39 wards and 05 towns).
The number of commune-level administrative units after the arrangement and merger of Can Tho City is 32 commune-level administrative units (including 16 wards and 16 communes).
Dismissal of 5 members of Can Tho City People's Committee
At this thematic session, the People's Council of Can Tho City voted to approve the Proposal of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City on the dismissal of 5 members of the People's Committee of Can Tho City for the 2021-2026 term: Mr. Nguyen Quang Nghi, former Director of the Department of Finance, retired; Ms. Tran Thi Xuan Mai, former Director of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, retired; Mr. Nguyen Van Su, former Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development transferred to another job; Mr. Huynh Hoang Men, former Director of the Department of Information and Communications transferred to another job; Mr. Mai Nhu Toan, former Director of the Department of Construction transferred to another job.
At the same time, the People's Council of Can Tho City also elected Mr. Tran Phu Loc Thanh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, to hold the position of Member of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, term 2021-2026.
Also at this session, the People's Council of Can Tho City passed 8 important resolutions related to socio-economic development of Can Tho City.
* On the morning of April 25, the People's Council of Hau Giang province held a special session to consider and approve the Resolution on merging provincial administrative units with Can Tho city and Soc Trang province.
Hau Giang province is located in the inland area of the Mekong Delta, with geographical location: the North borders Can Tho city and Vinh Long province, the East borders Soc Trang province, the South borders Bac Lieu province, the West borders Kien Giang province.
Currently, Hau Giang has a natural area of 1,662.23 km2 ; population: 997,880 people; number of administrative units: 08 (01 city, 02 towns and 05 districts).
According to the project on organization and arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Hau Giang province, after the merger, Hau Giang province has 28 commune-level administrative units.
