FIVB requested to give reasons for sanction
The incident involving the Vietnam U21 volleyball team has attracted special attention from the public, both domestically and in Southeast Asia. Over the past two days, many conflicting opinions have been expressed by all parties, but only when the FIVB officially announced did the athletes and the Vietnam U21 team know the reason for the punishment.
VFV General Secretary Le Tri Truong said that on August 13, VFV sent a document to FIVB with the hope that this organization would soon announce the specific reason for giving a very heavy penalty to an athlete as well as the Vietnam U21 team at the 2025 U21 World Championship.

A pillar of U21 Vietnam had all parameters erased by FIVB at the world tournament
"VFV and the U21 Vietnam team were very surprised by the penalty. We did nothing wrong and ensured all the requirements of the Organizing Committee. Regarding the violation from the perspective of the athletes or the Federation, we are still discussing with FIVB, and at the same time affirm that we always comply with the regulations of the tournament.
We request FIVB to clarify the regulations stated in the penalty notice, to ensure the rights of athletes and to ensure the reputation of VFV. Currently, VFV is coordinating with the authorities and has an official document sent to FIVB," said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
Previously, after issuing the penalties, FIVB affirmed that while the tournament was taking place, this organization did not provide any information, and in the coming time, the Vietnam Swimming Federation and the athletes eliminated from the tournament will be invited to provide their opinions in writing.
Having problems with the athlete's birth certificate?
"During the tournament, the tournament organizers sent a written request to VFV to check 3 Vietnamese athletes regarding their records and some personal issues. In addition, the organizers also asked VFV to provide the birth certificates of the athletes. We immediately contacted the families and localities to send the athletes' complete records to the organizers.

The Organizing Committee even requested to check the original birth certificates. After translating these documents, VFV also sent them to the Organizing Committee. When the two sides discussed back and forth, some problems arose between the two athletes, namely the date of birth certificate was different, one athlete had to get the birth certificate 1 year after birth, another athlete had to get it 2 years later.
We explained to the Organizing Committee that the birth certificate information was basically guaranteed, however, the Organizing Committee still did not allow the two Vietnamese athletes to compete. The Vietnam Swimming Federation has commented on this. On the evening of August 12, FIVB suddenly issued an official announcement about the penalties for the athletes as well as the U21 Vietnam team, even though all the athletes' documents were guaranteed to be in accordance with regulations," said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
"VFV and the U21 team both complied with the regulations on documents. At the technical meeting before the tournament, no one had any comments. But after preparing to end the group stage, they received a notice of inspection and review from the Organizing Committee. Especially the inspection related to individuals, I have never seen it before. The cancellation of the results of U21 Vietnam is very regrettable and disadvantageous for the athletes," the VFV General Secretary affirmed.

With four defeats, U21 Vietnam finished bottom of Group A, failing to make it to the round of 16. Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team met Egypt in the 17th-24th place match. Despite the huge shock, the Vietnamese girls still won 3-1, thereby competing for 17th-20th place with Chile in the final match of the tournament.
"From any perspective, the U21 Vietnam team still has to compete. After the incident, VFV discussed with the team's coaching staff so that the athletes would not waver and would compete with all their might for the country's flag," said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
