According to The Hill, the phone call between President Trump and President Xi Jinping took place on June 5 amid stalled trade negotiations between the two countries.
"I just concluded a very good phone call with President Xi Jinping of China, discussing some of the complex details of the trade deal we recently agreed to and signed," President Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform on June 5.

Mr. Trump emphasized that the content of the phone call focused only on trade, not discussing the conflict in Ukraine or Iran.
President Trump added that US and Chinese officials will meet soon to clarify rare earth issues.
"Teams from both countries will meet soon at a location to be determined. The US delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer," Trump said.
During the phone call, President Xi Jinping invited President Trump and US First Lady Melania to visit China.
"President Xi Jinping invited me and his wife to visit China, and I also invited him and his wife Peng Liyuan to the United States," Mr. Trump added.
Previously, in Switzerland in May 2025, the US and China reached an agreement to help "cool down" the trade war between the world's two largest economies . Specifically, the US will reduce tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China will reduce tariffs on US goods from 125% to 10%. According to DW, the two countries agreed to sharply reduce tariffs on each other's goods for an initial period of 90 days.
However, US-China tensions have escalated again recently as both sides accused each other of violating the trade agreement reached last month.
