Health check-ups for residents at Phu Loc Medical Center - Chan May Branch.

Meeting the needs for medical examination and treatment.

While working at the Laguna Lăng Cô resort, Mr. Hoàng Nhân unfortunately suffered a broken arm in a work accident. Instead of being transferred to a higher-level hospital as before, he was taken to the Phú Lộc Medical Center - Chân Mây facility for treatment. There, he received timely X-rays, examination, diagnosis, and casting.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi, residing in Chan May commune, Lang Co district, shared: “Previously, due to a lack of equipment, I had to travel to Hue Central Hospital for ultrasounds, which was time-consuming and costly. Now that the facility has invested in a 4D color ultrasound machine, I feel more at ease when receiving medical examinations and inpatient treatment locally.”

According to Dr. Tien Dat from the Outpatient Department, in previous years, due to dilapidated infrastructure, limited equipment, and a shortage of personnel, the number of patients seeking medical care was quite low, and many workers in the Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone had to travel to Da Nang City for treatment. However, since mid-2025, thanks to the investment in a 4D color ultrasound machine and gradual upgrading of facilities, the number of patients has increased significantly, with peak days seeing over 100 examinations.

Despite implementing various solutions to meet the healthcare needs of the people, the Chan May facility has not yet attracted many people for examination and treatment due to its large premises, inadequate infrastructure, and shortage of equipment and personnel. People still desire to receive healthcare in a more spacious facility with better equipment and facilities.

Enhance overall capabilities

Built in 2013 with a capacity of 200 beds, the Phu Loc Medical Center - Chan May facility is tasked with serving approximately 40,000 residents and over 3,000 workers in the economic zone. However, for a long time, the facility has not been able to fully utilize its potential due to various limitations.

Currently, the center has 4 departments with 57 staff members. Although the number of medical examinations and treatments has increased over the years, with about 40% being workers and laborers, the bed occupancy rate is only nearly 47%.

One of the biggest challenges at the Chan May facility is the shortage of specialist doctors. Except for the traditional medicine department, many specialties have only one doctor, putting pressure on the medical examination and treatment services. In addition, logistical services such as parking and a canteen have not been adequately invested in; the facility's location far from residential areas and inconvenient public transportation also affect its ability to attract patients.

In response to practical needs, the health sector of Hue City has been implementing various solutions to improve the capacity of the Phu Loc Medical Center - Chan May Branch. According to MSc. Dr. Le Viet Cuong, Director of the Center, the initial investment in modern equipment has yielded positive results, contributing to an increased rate of medical examinations and treatments and attracting workers to register for primary healthcare.

In the coming period, the Center will continue to upgrade its infrastructure, supplement its human resources, especially specialist doctors, and implement new techniques to improve the quality of on-site treatment. The goal is to reduce the burden on higher-level facilities and create the most favorable conditions for people and workers to access medical services.

According to the Board of Directors of Phu Loc Medical Center, the City People's Committee and the health sector are currently studying a plan to transfer the Chan May facility to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University for management, aiming for development according to the "University-Hospital" model. If implemented, the Chan May facility could be expanded to 800 beds, becoming one of the modern medical centers, linking training with practice, and meeting regional standards.

Dr. Le Viet Cuong believes that improving the capacity of the Phu Loc Medical Center - Chan May facility is not only aimed at meeting immediate healthcare needs, but also plays a crucial role in the development strategy of the Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone. A strong healthcare system is essential for attracting investment, ensuring social security, and improving the quality of life for the people.

With positive steps ranging from infrastructure and equipment investment to long-term development orientation, the Chan May facility is gradually asserting its role as a "pillar" for healthcare for the people and workforce in the area. In the future, when solutions are implemented comprehensively, this place has the potential to become a modern medical center, meeting the requirements of sustainable development for the locality and the region.
