Donating land for road construction - multiplying acts of kindness.

Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương02/02/2025

Even though land is extremely valuable, there are still people willing to donate land to widen and build roads, contributing to the proliferation of noble deeds.

In early 2025, news of Mr. Ngo Van Duong (85 years old) from An My village, Van Hoang commune, Phu Xuyen district ( Hanoi ) voluntarily demolishing his wall to widen his alleyway not only delighted his neighbors – those who directly benefited – but also earned him the silent admiration of many others.

The old wall, which was right at the bottleneck where even two bicycles could barely pass each other, has been replaced with a new, sturdy, smooth wall, moved inward by about 40cm, creating a gap that makes the narrow alley more open and allows tricycles to enter.

Not only in Hanoi, but also in Bac Kan, this Tet holiday, people in Na Chuong village have a new road to travel on. Na Chuong is one of the poorest villages in Bac Kan city, with 100% of its population being ethnic minorities such as Tay, Dao, and Hoa. Previously, Na Chuong had no roads; people had to walk along the mountainside to get to the commune, gradually turning into a dirt road less than 1 meter wide, making travel very difficult, especially during the rainy season.

With the encouragement of the local authorities, the households here discussed and agreed to build a 500-meter road from the village to the center of Nong Thuong commune. Families whose land was along the road voluntarily donated their land for the construction.

Wherever the road was being built, the villagers donated land, without calculating how many meters they had to donate, as long as the village had a wide, beautiful road to make travel and transporting goods easier. Other families contributed labor and donated over 30 million VND to rent machinery for construction.

Along with people nationwide, the people of Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, have enthusiastically responded to the movement of donating land for roads and public works for many years, becoming a shining example in the entire province in the movement to mobilize people to donate land for road expansion.

The inter-village road in Ngoc Van commune, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province, was widened from 3.5m to 8m and completed at the end of 2024, thanks to the support and contributions of the villagers. The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, from Van Lap village (Ngoc Van commune), also donated over 30 square meters of residential land. This land donation helps villagers transport large quantities of goods, contributing to reduced transportation costs.

According to Mr. Duong Ngo Khoat, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc Van commune, to date, people in the commune have donated more than 20,000 square meters of land to expand rural roads and build cultural and sports centers and welfare facilities, serving socio-economic development.

In this day and age, when land is as precious as gold, even just 1-2 square meters of land can be a significant amount. Beautiful acts of donating land for road construction or expansion, from urban to rural areas, from lowlands to mountainous regions, are inspiring and admirable actions for many people.

Accordingly, not only have families in An My village (Van Hoang commune, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi) successively committed to proactively moving their new houses further inward and donating land to make the alleyways more spacious, but this noble gesture of people donating land for road construction and expansion, for the common good, will create a strong ripple effect and be replicated throughout provinces and cities nationwide.

Working together to build public works, including the movement of donating land for road construction, will create a new face not only for the small streets and alleys of Hanoi but also in rural and mountainous areas.
