The effectiveness of spring rice cultivation as seen from land consolidation and reallocation in Duc Tho.

(Baohatinh.vn) - Thanks to the synchronized implementation of land consolidation and reallocation, large-scale fields in Duc Tho commune (Ha Tinh province) have facilitated production mechanization, increased productivity, and resulted in a bountiful spring harvest.

These days, the spring rice fields in Dai Nghia village, Duc Tho commune, are bustling with activity as the harvest takes place. The large, flat fields, after land consolidation and conversion, are clearly demonstrating their effectiveness, facilitating comprehensive mechanization from land preparation and cultivation to harvesting.

On large rice paddies, harvesting the spring rice crop is proceeding more smoothly.

Implementing the policy of land consolidation and rearrangement, since 2023, 113 households in Dai Nghia village have unanimously participated in the replanning of their farmland. From 285 small, fragmented plots, the villagers have consolidated them into 125 plots (a reduction of 160 plots compared to before). Currently, the average area of each plot is over 2,500 m², with the largest plot exceeding 4,000 m², contributing to improved production efficiency and reduced labor costs.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Lan (Dai Nghia village, Duc Tho commune) shared: “Previously, my family cultivated on four scattered plots of land; now, they have been planned and consolidated into one contiguous plot of over 4,000 m², making cultivation much more convenient. This spring, the glutinous rice and Bac Thinh varieties are growing well, with an estimated yield of about 64 quintals/hectare. The larger plot makes it easier to use machinery for production and harvesting; the labor for care and fertilization is also significantly reduced, and production efficiency has improved noticeably.”

Mr. Pham Ngoc Lan was delighted when his rice field of over 4,000 yielded a good harvest.

Before the land consolidation and reallocation, Dong Vinh village had 249 households cultivating 794 small, fragmented plots of land, with an average area of only about 1,100 m² per plot. Thanks to effective propaganda and mobilization efforts, creating consensus among the people, the local authorities implemented land planning, land consolidation and reallocation, field improvement, and invested in synchronized internal field infrastructure. As a result, the entire village gradually formed large-scale fields, facilitating concentrated production and promoting mechanization in agriculture .

To date, the number of plots in the entire village has decreased to 261, a reduction of 533 plots compared to before; among them, the largest plot has an area of over 7,000 m², contributing to improved farming efficiency and production value per unit area.

The spring rice crop yielded a good harvest, and joy was evident on the faces of the farmers in Duc Tho during the harvest season.

Ms. Hoang Thi Dung, head of Dong Vinh village (Duc Tho commune), said: “Through many production seasons on the converted and concentrated land areas, the people have clearly seen the benefits such as reduced investment costs, saved labor, and easier mechanization in production and harvesting. In particular, farming on large plots of land helps rice plants grow uniformly, resulting in higher yields than before, thus further confirming the practical effectiveness of the land conversion and concentration policy.”

In the spring of 2026, Duc Tho commune planted over 1,420 hectares of rice with key varieties such as glutinous rice, Bac Thinh, VNR20, Hoa Phat , Huong Binh, etc. Despite unfavorable weather conditions at the end of the season, affecting the harvesting progress, many areas in the converted and consolidated fields still yielded relatively high productivity, estimated at 62-66 quintals/hectare (the average spring rice yield for the whole province is about 61 quintals/hectare).

The process of land consolidation and reallocation has contributed to bringing many advantages to people in production and harvesting.

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Duc Tho commune, the land consolidation and conversion process has been implemented synchronously in all villages in the area since 2023, and by 2025 it had been basically completed in 7 villages with a total area of nearly 250 hectares. Specifically: Dai Nghia village has 125 plots remaining, a reduction of 160 plots; Dai Loi village has 169 plots remaining, a reduction of 179 plots; Chau Noi village has 73 plots remaining, a reduction of 163 plots; Tan Xuyen village has 146 plots remaining, a reduction of 157 plots; Thinh Cuong village has 160 plots remaining, a reduction of 198 plots; Dong Hoa village has 118 plots remaining, a reduction of 100 plots; and Dong Vinh village has 261 plots remaining, a reduction of 533 plots compared to before the land consolidation and conversion.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tieu, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Duc Tho commune, said: “To effectively implement the policy of land conversion and consolidation, the locality has intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to help people understand the benefits of large-scale farming. In reality, over many production seasons, large-scale fields have shown that they not only facilitate mechanization but also contribute to reducing investment costs and improving farming efficiency. This year, the spring rice crop yielded positive results, so the farmers are very pleased.”

The propaganda and mobilization efforts of the government and various organizations have contributed to the effectiveness of land consolidation and reallocation in Duc Tho.

Alongside the spring harvest, the locality is also focusing on preparing the conditions for the implementation of summer-autumn production in 2026 according to the seasonal schedule.

Ms. Vo Thi Hao, a specialist from the Economic Department of the Duc Tho Commune People's Committee, stated: “To date, the spring rice harvest in the area has reached nearly 95%. The local authorities are directing villages and production groups to prepare the land and sow the summer-autumn crop as soon as the harvest is completed, striving to finish sowing approximately 800 hectares of summer-autumn rice before June 5th. At the same time, we are continuing to promote and encourage people to participate in land consolidation and conversion in the remaining areas to improve agricultural production efficiency in a concentrated and sustainable manner.”

The effectiveness of land consolidation and reallocation in Duc Tho commune is gradually affirming the correctness of the policy of developing agriculture in a concentrated, large-scale manner; creating a foundation for increasing production value, promoting mechanization, and building a modern, sustainable agricultural sector.
