Effectiveness from integrated teaching, applying interdisciplinary knowledge

The Natural Science lesson of class 7a4, Than Uyen Town Secondary School was quite exciting. In addition to writing on the board, the teacher also combined the presentation through the projector installed right in the classroom. Ms. Dinh Thi Kim Dung - Natural Science teacher, Than Uyen Town Secondary School shared: Instead of teaching each lesson separately in the textbook, I build it into teaching topics, especially integrated topics of natural science. I am currently teaching integrated natural science with traffic safety. I focus on guiding students to self-study according to integrated topics, study and discuss in groups so that they can self-study and explore, exchange with each other to expand their knowledge and apply the knowledge they have learned into practice. This teaching method helps students promote positivity, initiative and creativity, meeting the needs of currenteducational innovation. Students learn lessons through images and video clips, which will easily increase their ability to associate and apply it to their lessons better.

Interdisciplinary lessons are organized in all grades and classes in the whole school. Sharing about interdisciplinary integrated learning, Vu Quynh Anh - a student of class 8A2 said: At first, we were confused about interdisciplinary integrated learning, so it was difficult to approach. However, after a while, applying this learning method helps the lessons become more vivid and practical, so when studying, it also reduces the boredom of the subject. We can immediately apply it to solve practical problems, avoiding rote learning.

Interdisciplinary integrated teaching is to incorporate related educational content into the teaching process of subjects such as: sustainable education; moral and lifestyle education; integration of sea and island sovereignty ; protection of cultural heritages - civilizations of humanity; integration of Ho Chi Minh's moral education... into subjects such as: Math, Natural Science... to avoid students having to learn the same knowledge content over and over again in many subjects.

Interdisciplinary learning helps 8A2 students to be more proactive in researching and acquiring more knowledge.

Teacher Hoang Quang Hung - Principal of the school shared: Teaching interdisciplinary integration requires teachers to have an understanding of interdisciplinary knowledge and in the process of teaching their subjects, they need to know how to select key knowledge to synthesize and summarize knowledge into main teaching ideas to avoid duplication. Teachers teaching interdisciplinary integration do not simply impart knowledge but also have to organize, test, evaluate and orient students' learning in and out of the classroom with this method. Therefore, the school has selected experienced teachers who are proficient in using computers and know how to apply information technology in teaching.

From September 2024 to present, Than Uyen Town Secondary School has taught integrated learning, applying interdisciplinary knowledge such as: 136 periods of national defense and security education; 37 periods of sustainable education; 159 periods of ethics and lifestyle education; 35 periods of human rights education. Integrated sovereignty over seas and islands 8 periods; protection of cultural heritages - civilizations of humanity 23 periods; integrated Ho Chi Minh ethics education in Mathematics 8 periods. Integrated traffic safety, health protection, environmental protection in Mathematics and Natural Sciences 114 periods.

Integrated teaching and application of interdisciplinary knowledge have contributed to improving the quality of education at the school. Through assessment, up to now, 510/705 students have been classified as having good or fair learning results; the school has many students winning prizes in competitions such as: The 2nd English Competition for students with the theme "Lai Chau Youth Integrating Globally" in 2024, with 3 students winning prizes; 3 students winning prizes in provincial and district science and technology. From there, it helps students love their subjects, creating motivation to excel in their studies.
