Stemming from her passion for clean agriculture , at the end of 2024, Ms. Hanh implemented a model of growing melons in a greenhouse with an area of 220 m². The initial investment cost was about 40 million VND for materials and a drip irrigation system, of which the State supported 50%. “At first, I was also worried because I did not have a firm grasp of the technique, but thanks to the training and guidance, everything from care to harvesting gradually stabilized,” Ms. Hanh shared.

Melons grown in greenhouses help limit pests and control the growing environment. The plants are cared for with a drip irrigation system, providing water and nutrients regularly. As the plants grow, Ms. Hanh trims the tops, prunes the branches, and selects flowers for pollination to ensure large, even fruit. When the fruit is large, she secures it with a hanging net bag to avoid damaging the vines.
According to Ms. Hanh, her family can grow 4 crops a year, each crop harvests about 700 kg of melons. The selling price ranges from 40,000 to 50,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, the average profit is about 30-40 million VND/year.
Not only stopping at economic efficiency, the model of growing melons in greenhouses also has the meaning of contributing to changing the production thinking of farmers. That is applying the drip irrigation system to save water, growing in greenhouses to limit pests and diseases, helping to improve productivity and product quality, meeting the increasingly high demands of the market.

To help farmers in general and Ms. Hanh in particular to easily apply the model, Phuoc Long commune authorities have coordinated with specialized departments to strengthen technical training, support part of the cost of building net houses and water-saving irrigation systems. Thanks to that, Ms. Hanh's melon growing model has become increasingly effective even though it has only been implemented for less than a year.

Mr. Doan Van Gia, Vice Chairman of Phuoc Long Commune People's Committee, said: "Currently, the commune focuses on encouraging people to convert ineffective production land areas to high-tech production models. In particular, the model of growing melons in greenhouses has initially shown clear effectiveness, both increasing income and contributing to building a clean and sustainable agricultural production area."
From the initial successes, it can be affirmed that the melon growing model of Ms. Hanh as well as a few households has opened a new direction for Phuoc Long agriculture. This is also the premise for the commune to continue to expand, contributing to the construction of clean agriculture, associated with sustainable rural economic development.
