The iPhone Air is currently Apple's thinnest smartphone. However, based on rumors, the record will soon be broken when the foldable iPhone is launched next year.

If nothing changes, the foldable iPhone will be launched in late 2026. Since there is no official name yet, the device is temporarily called the iPhone Fold.

Currently, the iPhone Air is 5.64 mm thin. In March, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted the iPhone Fold would be just 4.5-4.8 mm thin when unfolded, and 9-9.5 mm thin when folded.

For comparison, the iPhone Fold when unfolded will be about 20% thinner than the iPhone Air. The device is of course thinner than the remaining models such as the iPhone 17 (7.95 mm), iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max (8.75 mm).

Even when folded, the iPhone Fold is only slightly thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This means users will have an iPhone equivalent to the Pro line when putting it in their pocket, and very thin when opened.

Kuo predicts that the iPhone Fold will be positioned in the high-end segment, with a price tag that could be higher than $2,000. The thinness also comes with the removal of Face ID, and Touch ID may return.

Analysts believe that the thickness and space inside the iPhone Fold is too small for Face ID components, at least on the first generation. Apple plans to integrate Touch ID into the power button similar to some iPad models.

As of now, 9to5Mac believes that Apple has finalized the iPhone Fold's specs. While there are no new rumors, Kuo's data is usually reliable.

With a book-fold design, Kuo predicts the iPhone Fold will have a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external display. This means the device will resemble an iPad mini when opened. This tablet line has a screen size of 8.3 inches.

Analysts predict that Apple may adopt new technology to reduce the indentation on the iPhone Fold screen. This could also be a point of difference between the product and its competitors.

In terms of cameras, rumors suggest that the device will have a total of four cameras, including two rear cameras, one selfie camera when unfolded, and one selfie camera when folded.

In a recent Power On newsletter, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman added that the design of the iPhone Fold will resemble “two titanium iPhone Airs placed side by side,” reinforcing previous rumors about the product’s thinness.

“In other words, this is an ultra-thin device and a design achievement for Apple. It will also be very expensive compared to previous iPhones,” Gurman shared, emphasizing that the device could cost from $ 2,000 or more.

Gurman revealed that Foxconn's factory in China is still responsible for iPhone Fold production, despite some rumors that the product is likely to be assembled in India.

According to MacRumors , the iPhone Fold will enter a market that has been dominated by Samsung for years. Although it has been rumored for a long time, it took Apple many years to perfect and launch the product.
