Digital transformation highlight
One of the bright spots of the Ca Mau health sector is administrative reform and digital transformation. To date, the proportion of the population whose health is managed through personal electronic health records has reached 100%. The sector has deployed electronic medical records at 16/16 medical examination and treatment facilities with beds. In particular, Ca Mau General Hospital and Ca Mau Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital have completed electronic medical records and published them on the Ministry of Health's information portal before September 25, 2025.
The Ca Mau health sector has made great strides in many aspects. The entire sector has achieved 36 hospital beds per 10,000 people, including public, private and sector hospitals, better meeting the medical examination and treatment needs of the people. Maintaining communes and wards, meeting national health criteria at 100%, maintaining health stations with doctors and midwives or obstetricians and pediatricians at 100%. |
In addition, 116/116 medical examination and treatment facilities use chip-embedded citizen identification cards to receive information when visiting medical facilities. The health sector continues to integrate the Electronic Health Book on the VNeID application for patients and the people. Up to now, 18 provincial and regional medical examination and treatment facilities have implemented cashless fee collection, 19 examination and treatment facilities have connected to issue Driver's Health Certificates to the Health Insurance Assessment Portal.
Provincial hospitals receive, support, and transfer cutting-edge and high-tech techniques from hospitals under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health according to the Cooperation Agreement Plan between Ca Mau province and Ho Chi Minh City, and at the same time increase the transfer of techniques to hospitals and medical centers with beds.
Ca Mau health sector is determined to develop science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.
The Ca Mau health sector is piloting the operation model of the Health Station as a family medicine medical facility. Each hospital and health center with beds is registered to deploy and effectively apply at least 10 new techniques in examination and treatment.
In terms of professional efficiency, the number of inpatients increased by 13.2% compared to the same period in 2024, while the average number of inpatient days decreased. This shows that the quality of treatment at medical facilities is increasingly improved, helping patients recover faster, reducing the cost burden; and building people's trust in the local health system.
Expectation of comprehensive development
Besides the advantages, the Ca Mau health sector faces many difficulties, especially in terms of resources and finance. The main reason is due to low revenue from medical examination and treatment, as well as problems in settling and advancing health insurance costs from previous years. Some medical machines and equipment are old, infrastructure is degraded and damaged, affecting the quality of medical examination and treatment...
Mr. Vuong Huu Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: "In order for healthcare to contribute more to growth, there will certainly be many things that need to be done and done vigorously. That is to focus on comprehensive promotion on many factors, from training high-quality healthcare human resources, investing in good infrastructure, developing specialized healthcare, combining modern medicine and traditional medicine, promoting digital transformation, simplifying administrative procedures related to medical examination and treatment activities; promoting public-private partnerships in providing healthcare services".
Currently, the industry is reviewing the infrastructure planning of some provincial units; developing a proposal for a medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030. Reviewing and perfecting the organizational structure, developing and completing a job position project, ensuring the prescribed norms, meeting the number of people working to serve patients.
Ca Mau health sector aims to perfect the organizational system in a streamlined direction, ensuring adequate human resources in both quantity and quality.
Up to now, Ca Mau General Hospital with 1,200 beds has been put into operation, ensuring advanced and modern equipment, not only meeting the health care needs of the people but also being a place for scientific research and training of highly skilled medical staff.
Investment in health care is the key to comprehensive and sustainable economic growth. Looking to the future, with continuous efforts in improving professional capacity, investing in facilities and applying technology, Ca Mau's health sector is laying solid foundations for a modern, comprehensive health care system, making an important contribution to economic growth./ .
