The appearance of the iPhone Air is not only a major design change in Apple's product line, but is also seen as the clearest hint yet for the iPhone Fold, a foldable screen smartphone expected to launch in 2026.

In Bloomberg 's Power On article, author Mark Gurman suggests that users can imagine the iPhone Fold as two iPhone Airs placed side by side. The key difference lies in the hinge, which allows the device to open into a single large screen instead of being made up of two panels.

Thinness is something Apple has been particularly keen on. Reports say the iPhone Fold will be as thin as the iPhone Air when unfolded, while the device will be at least twice as thick when folded. This is a technical challenge, but it fits in with Apple's approach, as the company optimizes the weight of its hardware.

Some rumors also suggest that the iPhone Fold could be as thin as 4.8 mm, or even 4.5 mm, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This would make the device "slimmer" than the current iPad Pro M4 and iPhone Air.

In terms of display, sources say the device will have a folding screen of about 7.5 inches and a secondary screen on the outside measuring about 5.5 inches. Thanks to that, the iPhone Fold can meet both entertainment needs and convenient use when folded. However, Gurman predicts that the price of the product will not be easy to access. He believes that the starting price will be at least $ 2,000 , making the iPhone Fold the most expensive iPhone ever.

Beyond design and price, the other big question is manufacturing. According to Gurman, Apple is still working with suppliers and assembly partners to finalize the product. While Foxconn in China will continue to play a key role, India is also being considered as a potential manufacturing hub.

The move of part of the production line to India is in line with Apple's strategy of diversifying production to reduce risks from global political and economic fluctuations. A report on September 18 said Apple has conducted trial production in Taiwan before replicating the process in India.

However, Apple still has to solve problems related to importing components from China, while expanding its network of local suppliers to meet the huge demand of a completely new product.
