Tragedy of love and loyalty

Based on the classic opera from hát bội, Hồ Nguyệt Cô hóa Cáo is a new creation with the ancient opera genre, bringing a lot of fun. Set in the context of the struggle to overthrow the Zhou Dynasty of Wu Zetian to restore the Tang Dynasty to the Ly family, Hồ Nguyệt Cô descends to the mortal world to find the reincarnation of the woodcutter who saved her life to repay her debt. That woodcutter is now Tiết Giao - the descendant of a loyal minister of the Tang Dynasty. However, the second fox Nguyệt Minh also loves Tiết Giao, plots to sabotage, pushing Nguyệt Cô to marry Võ Tam Tư - a general of the Zhou Dynasty. The war between the two dynasties becomes the setting for Nguyệt Cô's inner tragedy, when she discovers that her former benefactor and her current husband are standing on opposite sides of the battle line. In just a moment of weakness, she loses her life-giving pearl, leading to a series of painful consequences.

The story has a mythical feel but raises very real questions: Should Ho Nguyet Co follow the will of heaven to fulfill her fate with Tiet Giao, or keep her current happiness with Vo Tam Tu? Could she be happier if she dared to decide her own fate? Nguyet Co's tragedy, whether it originated from external circumstances or her own choices, has happened; and how she faces it is the core message of the play: forgiveness, letting go of hatred and enlightenment on the journey of self-improvement.

Nguyet Co's journey is portrayed through two times of saving Tiet Giao. The first time, she was immersed in love, the vibrations of meeting her old lover and became lost, losing her human body and returning to the animal life. But the second time, she was more awake, clearly aware of the consequences but still chose to sacrifice to fulfill the debt of saving her life. Unexpectedly, at that very moment, the spirit pearl of her destiny returned, and Ho Nguyet Co became human again. A very clear message: only when love and loyalty are harmonized, can a person truly escape the "animal" part, and become truly human. Everyone has hidden evils and weaknesses, but when overcoming the challenges of love and loyalty, that person will be better, more perfect. A very modern, very humane view of the classic character Ho Nguyet Co in art, that's why the play has significant appeal.

Highlights on stage

Meritorious Artist Tu Suong has excellently transformed into the role of Ho Nguyet Co, fully expressing many layers of emotions. From the innocence of a little fox touching the human world for the first time, to the strong spirit on the battlefield, the surprise of being deceived by her benefactor, and the regret towards her loyal husband... all are delicately portrayed by her. This is a role that requires inner strength in both singing and dancing, and Tu Suong proves that she is still a top actress trusted by directors.

Young artist Hung Vuong also left his mark with the role of Tiet Giao - a loyal and brave but conflicted minister. He clearly portrayed the dark corners of the character, when Tiet Giao was forced to use tricks to protect his ideals, creating a multi-dimensional and realistic image. With so much choreography and action, Hung Vuong proved his admirable youth and enduring singing and acting. Meanwhile, artist Minh Truong brought a warm Vo Tam Tu, who loved his wife with all his heart. The voice of the Golden Bell of Traditional Music still resonated, rich in emotion, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of viewers.

The show also brings together talented artists such as: Le Thanh Thao, Son Minh, Trung Nhan, Le Trinh, Hoai Thanh, My Nhung, Hong Yen, Kim Hi, Hoang Khanh, Dong Tuong, Ai Loan, Trung Cuong... All together create a lively work of classical opera. The highlight is the restraint of Ho Quang style (very little left), giving more space to music and singing style, melodies and reformed opera songs, interwoven and arranged very skillfully, the feeling is very close but still new and attractive.
