If awarded the contract to supply steel for the North-South high-speed railway project, "steel king" Tran Dinh Long commits to providing 6 million tons of various types of steel for the project at a price lower than imported goods.

Currently, the North-South high-speed railway project is under discussion. In an interview with VietNamNet , Mr. Tran Dinh Long, Chairman of Hoa Phat Group, shared: Hoa Phat fully supports the government's policy of building the North-South high-speed railway, and particularly appreciates the requirement to "use" domestically produced goods in the bidding packages.

"According to calculations by consulting firms, the project requires approximately 6 million tons of various types of steel. These are all types of steel that Vietnam can produce," Mr. Long said.

"Steel King" Tran Dinh Long revealed that Hoa Phat has been researching rail steel products for the past three years. Therefore, producing rail steel for high-speed railways is entirely within the group's capabilities.

In fact, Hoa Phat is surveying and proposing investment plans for several large projects in Phu Yen province, including a steel and iron production complex. The product structure there is expected to focus on high-quality steel products for mechanical manufacturing, such as steel plates, structural steel, steel profiles, steel rails, etc.

"If Hoa Phat becomes the steel supplier for this project, we commit to ensuring the supply of 6 million tons of various types of steel, especially high-speed rail steel and high-strength prestressed steel," Mr. Tran Dinh Long emphasized.

Furthermore, Mr. Long committed that all types of steel would meet international quality standards and comply with the technical requirements of the tenders; and that delivery would be on schedule according to the project plan.

Regarding the prices of various types of steel used in the North-South high-speed railway project, the Chairman of Hoa Phat Group assured that "prices are competitive and lower than imported steel prices."

Previously, speaking at a seminar on high-speed rail on October 29th, Mr. Nguyen Danh Huy, Deputy Minister of Transport, stated: "During the process of developing the project to be submitted to the Politburo, then to the Central Committee, as well as the feasibility report that the Government is submitting to the National Assembly this time, we have all included policy mechanisms to ensure that domestic enterprises can participate."

“For example, we impose conditions requiring the general contractor to use domestically produced goods and services. We make this a prerequisite for contractors participating in the project. Or we propose policies to the National Assembly , assigning tasks to 100% state-owned enterprises, or placing orders with domestic enterprises for items and goods that can be produced domestically,” Mr. Huy shared.

In the pre-feasibility study report for the North-South high-speed railway project, the Ministry of Transport stated that the line will be approximately 1,541km long, starting at Ngoc Hoi station (Hanoi) and ending at Thu Thiem station (Ho Chi Minh City).

The railway line will pass through 20 provinces and cities; it will have 23 passenger stations and 5 freight stations, each station having a planned development area of 250-300 hectares, except for Thu Thiem station which is expected to have an area of approximately 17 hectares.
