Many outstanding achievements
Holding the list of 151 students exempted from the high school graduation exam and granted direct admission to colleges and universities in 2026, announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, Ma Le Hoang Phat reviewed each line of text and his eyes stopped at his name. “I’m so happy. Before, I only thought about studying hard, so when I found out I was exempted from the exam and granted direct admission to university, I was both happy and nervous,” Phat shared.
Phát will be exempt from the high school graduation exam and granted direct admission to colleges and universities in 2026 thanks to his achievement of winning second prize in informatics at the national high school student excellence competition in the 2025-2026 academic year. Hoàng Phát is also the only student from the province selected to participate in the selection exam for the regional and international Informatics Olympiad team in 2026.
Hoang Phat also boasts many other achievements throughout his school years. In 10th grade, he won third prize in the provincial-level computer science competition and a bronze medal at the Southern Summer Camp. In 11th grade, Phat continued to win a consolation prize in the national computer science competition, first prize in the provincial-level competition, third prize in the provincial-level Young Informatics Competition, first prize in the Southern Region Young Informatics Competition, a consolation prize in the national Young Informatics Competition, and a silver medal in the traditional April 30th Olympic competition.
Phát recounted that he had never imagined he would become so deeply involved with the subject. For him, computer science was just another subject in class. In 10th grade, Phát participated in the provincial-level computer science competition with the mindset of testing his skills, interacting with others, and gaining experience. "At that time, I didn't think I would win a prize; I just wanted to participate to learn more," Phát confessed. However, winning third prize that year became a special milestone, opening up a new journey for Phát with computer science.
After being selected for the provincial team of outstanding computer science students, Phat began to delve deeper into algorithms, programming, and advanced problem types. From the initial days of uncertainty, the young man gradually discovered his love for the subject and progressively conquered numerous competitions, both large and small, in the following years of his schooling.
Transform pressure into motivation.
Speaking about the difficulties in his journey pursuing computer science, Hoang Phat said that the biggest pressure came from his own expectations after each achievement. After each exam, instead of allowing himself to relax, Phat reminded himself to try even harder. “There were times when I was very stressed before exams. After achieving a certain result, I was afraid that I wouldn't do as well the following year, afraid of letting my teachers down. There were times when I studied quite late because I wanted to prepare even more thoroughly,” Hoang Phat shared.
Instead of giving up in the face of pressure, Hoang Phat gradually learned to turn that pressure into motivation. “Sometimes, when the pressure is too much, I sit and look back at pictures of myself in previous exams. I think that if I tried hard and succeeded before, then I can try again now,” Phat shared his “secret” to reducing stress.
In addition, Phat chose to talk more with his family, teachers, and friends whenever he felt stressed. For Phat, the encouragement from everyone was a huge source of strength in his learning journey. Phat said: “Luckily, I always received encouragement from my family, teachers, and friends. During the time I was studying in Rach Gia ward, my family and teachers often came to visit me. Every time I felt anxious or lacked confidence, everyone reminded me to just try my best. That support helped me gradually overcome pressure and maintain my spirits.”
According to Mr. Tran Quoc Vu, Vice Principal of Thu Khoa Nghia Specialized High School, Ma Le Hoang Phat's achievement is a well-deserved result of his persistent efforts throughout his years of schooling. “What impressed the teachers about Phat was his perseverance and his ability to overcome pressure in major exams. Phat was always proactive in his studies, knew how to set goals for himself, and strived every day to achieve them. The fact that Hoang Phat was exempted from the high school graduation exam and granted direct admission to university further motivates the school's students in their studies, training, and pursuit of their passions,” Mr. Vu said.
