Theater enthusiasts are likely familiar with Hoang Phi, as he is considered one of the most talented young actors. Phi can handle anything from tragic and comedic roles to elderly characters.
Hoang Phi 'dominates' at the New Stage
Although he's new to the New Stage, Hoang Phi has quickly made a name for himself with many plays such as "The Troupe with Many Tricks," "A Love Story ," etc. Most recently, he played the role of Manh, the pork butcher in the New Stage's Tet play "As You Wish, Prosperous ."
The play tells the story of Tài, an abandoned boy who is taken in by the locals until he is in his teens. Then, one day, an old man suddenly appears, claiming to be Tài's grandfather, and tries to take Tài away.
Manh and his wife were also among those who loved and raised Tai from a young age, treating him like their own son. Because they loved Tai so much, the entire market neighborhood protected him to prevent him from falling into the hands of adults with ulterior motives.
As a Lunar New Year play, Nhu Y Phat Tai has a lighthearted story, depicting the compassion of poor people in a traditional market that may soon be shut down as supermarkets and online shopping become increasingly popular.
Based on that simple story, the play unfolds with various comedic elements to bring laughter to the audience. Therefore, the play greatly needs actors with versatile and flexible performance skills to maintain the narrative flow and the play's appeal.

While in the play "A Love Affair," Hoang Phi played the character who had unrequited love for Huynh Bao Ngoc's character, in "Nhu Y Phat Tai," they are paired together, playing the kind-hearted couple, Mr. Manh and his wife, who sell pork - Photo: LINH DOAN
Hoang Phi plays an extra, but he's not just any ordinary extra, because he's a super-lively one. Sometimes he's showy, sometimes impulsive, but he's quickly silenced by his heavily pregnant wife.
Hoang Phi's comedic performances are not overly physical but rather profound and charming, making the audience burst into laughter with his adorable paper tiger character—rough on the outside but kind and gentle on the inside.
"Như Ý Phát Tài" combines the names of the characters, forming a chain of storylines in the play, including Mrs. Như Ý, Mr. Phát, and their grandson Tài. Besides Hoàng Phi, the play also features artists such as Hoài Linh, Cát Phượng, Phương Linh, Bảo Ngọc, Tất Diệu Hằng, Huỳnh Tiến Khoa, and others.
