Having participated in the drill competition among 5 squads of "junior police officers" at the Coming-of-Age Ceremony of the "Learning to be a Police Officer" Program, I was impressed by how skillfully the children performed the tasks of arranging their living quarters, and marching and formation drills.
Having just finished the competition, Nguyen Danh Minh from To Hieu ward shared: "Participating in the program allowed me to experience many new things, such as waking up early, folding blankets, exercising, developing independence, and making many new friends. If my parents agree, I will register to participate again next summer."
The "Learning to be a Police Officer" program, organized annually by the Provincial Youth Activities Center in coordination with the Party and Political Affairs Department of the Provincial Police, consists of two classes for children aged 9-16 who are children of police officers, adopted children of police officers, children of full-time Youth Union officials, and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program ensures absolute safety and helps students develop discipline and improve life skills.
Over seven days, the "young cadets" received education in knowledge, discipline, conduct, courage, and life skills. Knowledge education included learning about the traditions of the People's Public Security Force and the Son La Provincial Public Security Department; training in internal regulations, drills, and basic martial arts; and practicing rescue, escape, and crime prevention skills. Life skills education focused on teamwork, presentation skills, communication, handling dangerous situations, and participation in various cultural, sports, and artistic activities, including a campfire.
The highlight of the "Learning to be a Police Officer" program is its emotionally rich activities, such as writing handwritten letters, interacting with children at the provincial Social Welfare Center, and participating in squad activities. The letters sent to family contain stories of friendship and kinship, lessons about caring, sharing, and the noble spirit of camaraderie.
Ms. Thai Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Provincial Youth Activities Center, said: "The 7-day 'Learning to be a Police Officer' program helps children develop good habits, self-reliance, discipline, courage, and solidarity. Through beneficial and engaging activities, they experience the life of a police officer, learn how to overcome difficulties, challenge themselves, and thus become more dynamic, creative, and resilient."
After two years of organization, with over 400 young participants, the "Learning to be a Police Officer" program has proven its effectiveness, building trust among parents and contributing to spreading a positive image of the People's Police force. This is a beneficial playground that helps young people develop life skills, increase self-confidence and dynamism, and become more integrated and mature.
