Tuition fees at Hanoi Medical University in 2023 are expected to be the highest at over 55 million VND for the medical major, 3.5 times higher than the old level.
Tuition fees at Hanoi Medical University are divided into two groups, according to the enrollment plan announced by the school on June 7.
Of these, 6 majors are Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Ophthalmology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Rehabilitation Technology and Advanced Nursing Program at Hanoi headquarters, which are in the group that must ensure regular expenses. This group has expected tuition fees from 41.8 to 55.2 million VND per year.
The remaining group is the units that partially cover their regular expenses, including Dentistry, Preventive Medicine, Public Health , Nutrition, Medicine and Nursing at Thanh Hoa branch. Tuition fees for this group range from 20.9 to 27.6 million VND.
Compared to the tuition fee of more than 15.7 million VND, applied from the 2021-2022 school year for all majors, this year's tuition fee of Hanoi Medical University increased by about 1.3 to 3.5 times. The Medical major has the highest fee, equal to the fee for this major at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
According to Decree 81 of the Government from 2021, the Health sector has the highest tuition increase. The tuition ceiling for the Medicine and Pharmacy sector at public universities that do not cover regular expenses (not yet autonomous) is 24.5-35 million VND per year, according to the roadmap to the 2025-2026 school year.
Public schools have autonomy to collect tuition fees equal to 2-2.5 times the above ceiling. With training programs that have been accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training or accredited by foreign countries, universities can decide their own tuition fees.
Last year, like many other universities, the medical school group announced new tuition fees. However, the government then requested to stop to support people after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Before the 2023-2024 enrollment season, many schools are expected to increase tuition fees again. However, at a meeting with the Ministry of Education and Training on May 10, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that it is necessary to amend Decree 81 to have a suitable roadmap and soon apply tuition fee policies in the direction of calculating correctly and sufficiently to improve the quality of higher education and vocational training.
Currently, the record for medical tuition fees belongs to Hong Bang International University (HCMC) with a fee of 250 million VND per year for the Dentistry major. In public schools, the Vietnamese-German Medical program of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine charges the highest fee of 209 million VND per year. Next is the Dentistry program of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy with 77 million VND per year.

Along with the tuition increase, Hanoi Medical University has increased its enrollment quota by 200 compared to last year, bringing the total number of students recruited this year to 1,370. The school maintains two stable admission methods: considering high school graduation exam scores and considering a combination of English or French certificates and exam scores. In addition, the school directly admits candidates who have won national and international awards according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Last year, the benchmark score for Hanoi Medical University based on graduation exam results ranged from 19 to 28.15, the highest for Medicine, the lowest for Nursing at Thanh Hoa branch.
