Hanoi Medical University Tuition Fees 2023

VnExpressVnExpress08/06/2023

Tuition fees at Hanoi Medical University in 2023 are expected to be highest at over 55 million VND for the Medical program, a 3.5-fold increase compared to the previous level.

Tuition fees at Hanoi Medical University are divided into two groups, according to the admissions plan announced by the university on June 7th.

Of these, six programs – Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Ophthalmic Refraction, Medical Laboratory Technology, Rehabilitation Technology, and Advanced Nursing – at the Hanoi campus are in the group that must self-finance their operating expenses. The tuition fees for this group are estimated to range from 41.8 to 55.2 million VND per year.

The remaining group consists of units that partially cover their own operating expenses, including Dentistry, Preventive Medicine, Public Health , Nutrition, and Medicine and Nursing at the Thanh Hoa branch. Tuition fees for this group range from 20.9 to 27.6 million VND.

Compared to the tuition fee of over 15.7 million VND, applied from the 2021-2022 academic year for all majors, this year's tuition fee at Hanoi Medical University has increased by approximately 1.3 to 3.5 times. The Medical major has the highest tuition fee, equal to the fee for this major at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

According to Government Decree 81 from 2021, the health sector has the highest tuition fee increase. The tuition fee ceiling for medical and pharmaceutical majors at public universities that are not yet self-sufficient in covering their operating expenses (not autonomous) is 24.5-35 million VND per year, according to the roadmap until the 2025-2026 academic year.

Public universities that have become autonomous are allowed to collect tuition fees at 2-2.5 times the above-mentioned ceiling. For training programs that have achieved quality accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Training or international accreditation, universities can independently determine tuition fees.

Last year, like many other universities, the group of medical schools announced new tuition fees. However, the government subsequently ordered a halt to this to support people after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prior to the 2023-2024 admissions season, many universities planned to raise tuition fees again. However, at a meeting with the Ministry of Education and Training on May 10th, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha stated that Decree 81 needs to be amended to establish an appropriate roadmap and promptly implement a tuition fee policy that accurately reflects costs, thereby improving the quality of higher education and vocational training.

Currently, the record for medical tuition fees belongs to Hong Bang International University (Ho Chi Minh City) with 250 million VND per year for the Dentistry program. Among public universities, the Vietnam-Germany Medical program at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine has the highest fee at 209 million VND per year. Next is the Dentistry program at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy with 77 million VND per year.

Along with the tuition fee increase, Hanoi Medical University has increased its enrollment quota by 200 compared to last year, bringing the total number of students to 1,370 this year. The university maintains two admission methods: considering high school graduation exam scores and considering a combination of English or French language certificates with exam scores. In addition, the university directly admits candidates who have won national or international awards according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Last year, the entrance exam scores for Hanoi Medical University, based on high school graduation exam results, ranged from 19 to 28.15, with the highest score for the Medical program and the lowest for the Nursing program at the Thanh Hoa branch.
