2023 Southeast Region Urban Cluster Meeting: Many useful presentations

Attending the event were Mr. Duong Van Thang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Dr., Architect Ngo Trung Hai - General Secretary of the Vietnam Urban Association; Mr. Do Ngoc Hoan - representative of the Southern Institute of Urban Planning; Master Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao - Coordinator of the GCoM Asia project and leaders of provinces and cities in the Southeast Urban Cluster.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Duong Van Thang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that in recent years, along with the development of urban areas in the country in general and the Southeast Urban Cluster in particular, Tay Ninh has directed the mobilization of all resources for urban development. The province has organized new initiatives on smart cities, sustainable development and environmental friendliness, such as piloting smart urban management, camera surveillance systems, etc.

Provincial leaders consider the 2023 Southeast Urban Cluster Meeting held in Tay Ninh city as a very good opportunity to create close connections with urban areas in the region and the whole country.

From there, expand foreign relations, constantly exchange, learn, cooperate, and develop more strongly in the coming time. Tay Ninh always hopes to receive many suggestions to see more clearly the potential, strengths, advantages, difficulties, and limitations in the process of urban development.

At the conference, delegates listened to four presentations: Integrating climate change response into urban planning in Vietnam; Orientation for urban development in the Southeast region to 2030, vision to 2050; Experience in mobilizing resources to support climate change work in urban areas around the world and in Vietnam; Current status of water supply and drainage management and wastewater treatment, solutions for urban areas.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Luong Ba Can - Vice Chairman of Tay Ninh City People's Committee said that for many years, domestic wastewater has been discharged into the rainwater drainage system or directly into the nearest fields and canals and then discharged into the canal.

Currently, Tay Ninh City is building a wastewater collection and treatment system in the area. This is a separate drainage system, not shared with the rainwater drainage system. This system has a phase 1 capacity of 5,000m3/day.night, built with preferential capital from the Italian government (ODA capital) and domestic counterpart. Construction time is 24 months, from September 27, 2022.

Mr. Pham Trung Chanh - Chairman of Tay Ninh City People's Committee presented the rotating flag of the Southeast Urban Cluster to the leaders of Thu Dau Mot City.

The conference awarded the rotating flag of the Cluster Leader and organized the 2024 Southeast Urban Cluster Meeting for the leaders of Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province.
