The CIISSD conference will be held for the first time in 2025, with the theme “Vietnam's Halal Economic and Trade Development”.
The workshop gathered hundreds of delegates including scientists, managers, diplomats , businessmen from universities, research institutes, ministries, embassies, Vietnamese and international enterprises to exchange experiences, current situations and propose solutions for economic development, promoting the export market of Halal goods.
In addition, the proposed policy recommendations were sent to the Central Policy and Strategy Committee; Government Office ; Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Science and Technology; Localities, etc.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang, Rector of the University of Commerce, emphasized that the global Halal market has great potential in terms of scale, spending level and diversity in fields, as well as future growth prospects.
There are currently more than 2 billion Muslims living in 112 countries and territories. Of these, 57 countries are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, accounting for 25% of the world's population, with the majority concentrated in Asia, especially in the ASEAN bloc.
Over the past few years, the Halal industry has become the fastest growing segment in the world with an annual growth rate of 5.2%, the most profitable and influential in the global food business.
A report from market research platform MMR forecasts the total revenue of the Halal food market to reach around USD 5,284.96 billion by 2030 and USD 15,000 billion by 2050.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang, the Vietnamese Government is very interested in opening up and supporting Vietnamese enterprises to effectively participate in the global Halal market. At the national level, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 10/QD-TTg dated February 14, 2023 approving the Project "Strengthening international cooperation to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry by 2030".
Vietnam is emerging as a "new economic star" in the global supply chain, with many conditions to develop the Halal industry such as favorable geographical location, strengths in agriculture, food, tourism, services; deep and comprehensive international economic integration when participating in many leading regional economic linkages, including new generation free trade agreements.
"The opportunity to participate in the global Halal market is huge, not only diversifying the market and developing tourism, but also opening up the export of Vietnamese products with strengths and attracting financial investment from international and regional corporations to Vietnam. From there, contributing to helping Vietnamese enterprises and localities improve their competitiveness, human resource quality and promote technology transfer, especially production, processing, preservation, transportation technology... meeting Halal standards", Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang emphasized.
However, according to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang, currently Vietnamese enterprises have only exported about 20 items, the total import-export turnover to Muslim countries in the ASEAN region only reached over 26.37 billion USD, accounting for a small proportion of the total structure of export items.
This situation is due to many objective and subjective bottlenecks and barriers from market understanding, strict and complex standards, independent production processes, and high investment costs.
Therefore, the first International Scientific Conference on “Innovation, Integration and Sustainable Development” in 2025 decided to choose the theme: “Vietnam’s Halal Economic and Trade Development”. The conference was co-founded and organized by the University of Commerce with the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
At the workshop, scientists, managers, diplomats, businessmen from universities, research institutes, ministries, embassies, Vietnamese and international enterprises exchanged experiences, current situations, proposed solutions for economic development, and promoted the export of Halal goods.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang also emphasized that the International Scientific Conference "Innovation, Integration and Sustainable Development" in 2025 is an important scientific and diplomatic event towards the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Commerce (1960 - 2025).
In Arabic, "Halal" means "permitted" and "Haram" means forbidden. Muslims only use products that are permitted by God (Allah) and express their permission by having the product certified Halal according to the Quran and Islamic Shari'ah Law.
Halal products include almost all essential products of life such as food, beverages, organic foods, functional foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, textiles, handicrafts to service sectors such as: banking, tourism, security, education and training, food services, hotels, logistics.
The market for Halal products is distributed throughout the world, from Muslim to non-Muslim countries, from developed to developing economies, because Halal products meet many criteria on food hygiene and safety, ensuring health, quality, green, clean, ethical in processing and contributing to environmental protection...
