The judges selected the ginseng plants to enter the final round.

On the morning of August 1, the People's Committee of Nam Tra My mountainous district ( Quang Nam province) organized the opening ceremony of the 6th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Competition in 2024. The competition is an activity within the framework of the 6th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival in 2024. Through the competition, it aims to create conditions for meeting, exchanging and learning experiences on techniques of planting, caring for and protecting Ngoc Linh ginseng between posts and ginseng growers in Nam Tra My district. At the same time, promoting the image of Ngoc Linh ginseng in Nam Tra My district domestically and internationally, affirming that Nam Tra My is the capital of Ngoc Linh ginseng of the country.

Nam Tra My district is a locality that has been blessed by nature with one of the best ginsengs in the world – Ngoc Linh ginseng. This is a rare medicinal plant with high economic value, which has helped the people in the ginseng growing area escape poverty and become rich in recent times.

Currently, Ngoc Linh ginseng has been recognized by the Government as a national product: Vietnamese ginseng. To develop this precious medicinal plant, the movement to preserve and develop Ngoc Linh ginseng in Nam Tra My has been very strong; from only preserving in 03 communes (Tra Nam, Tra Linh and Tra Cang), it has now expanded to develop in 04 communes (Tra Don, Tra Tap, Tra Don and Tra Leng). According to statistics, up to now, in Nam Tra My district, there have been over 350 ginseng planting posts, with more than 4,500 households and over 5,000 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng and will expand further.

According to Mr. Tran Van Man, Vice Chairman of Nam Tra My District People's Committee, the Government recently approved the Program for developing Vietnamese Ginseng to 2030 and vision to 2045. This is an opportunity to increase the proportion of local economic value from developing Ngoc Linh Ginseng to reach out to the world market.

As soon as the Government approved the Program for developing Vietnamese Ginseng to 2030 and vision to 2045, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province approved the plan for conservation and development of Ngoc Linh Ginseng in 7/10 communes of Nam Tra My district, with a total area of ​​over 15,000 hectares; at the same time, issued policies and mechanisms to encourage conservation and development of Ngoc Linh Ginseng and assigned the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district to take August 1st every year as Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival and organize related activities to promote and introduce this precious medicinal plant.

The judges selected the ginseng plants to enter the final round. Beautiful Ngoc Linh ginseng plants, grown from clear origins, with balanced shape, leaves, flowers, and tubers are the criteria for evaluating and finding the winning ginseng plant.

Within the framework of the main activities of the 6th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival - 2024, Nam Tra My district organizes the Ngoc Linh Ginseng Competition to create conditions for meeting, exchanging and learning experiences on techniques of planting, caring for and protecting Ngoc Linh ginseng between ginseng growing stations in Nam Tra My district. At the same time, promoting the image of Ngoc Linh ginseng of Nam Tra My district domestically and internationally, affirming that Nam Tra My is the capital of Ngoc Linh ginseng of the country.

At the contest, nearly 100 contestants, who are businesses, organizations and individuals growing Ngoc Linh ginseng in Nam Tra My district, introduced the origin, growing and care process, age as well as color, balance of trunk, branches, leaves, flowers, tubers...

The Organizing Committee conducted 2 rounds of judging (preliminary and final) to find the most unique Ngoc Linh Ginseng plants in the age groups: 5-7 years old, 8-10 years old, 11-15 years old and over 15 years old. Based on that, the most beautiful, highest quality and most comprehensive ginseng plants were selected to award prizes.

The organizing committee will select 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize for each ginseng category in each age group. In particular, after winning the prize, the ginseng plants will be auctioned to support the Fund for Eliminating Temporary Housing for Poor Households in Nam Tra My District according to the call of the Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee.

It is known that, right after the launching ceremony of the Contest from July 22, 2024, by July 31, 2024, there were more than 100 collectives, individuals, and households with more than 200 Ngoc Linh Ginseng trees that met the basic quality criteria compared to the criteria for participating in the Contest. Based on 200 Ngoc Linh Ginseng trees participating in the contest, on the afternoon of July 31, 2024, the Jury selected the preliminary round and selected more than 50 Ngoc Linh Ginseng trees that met the quality and standards to enter the final round of this Contest./.
