Giàng A La (second from the right) connects with and accompanies tourists on their journey to explore community-based tourism in Northwest Vietnam.
Born and raised in the Hang Kia valley - Pa Co commune, Giang A La experienced a difficult childhood, deeply understanding the hardships faced by his ethnic minority people. After graduating from the Northwest College of Arts, he decided to return to his village and, together with some local youths, established a tourism and agricultural service cooperative. However, due to a lack of management experience, the model encountered many problems and ceased operation.
His initial failure didn't discourage him; instead, it strengthened his resolve to pursue tourism development. Leveraging the beautiful natural landscape and unique cultural identity, he started a homestay model right on his family's small property. Alongside the "A La Homestay" business, Giàng A La focused on developing all-inclusive tours lasting 1-4 days, offering visitors authentic experiences of local culture.
Visitors here not only get to sightsee, admire the scenery, and chase the clouds, but also directly participate in traditional activities such as: pounding rice cakes, beeswax painting, indigo dyeing, cooking with the locals, cultural exchanges, picking plums and peaches according to the season, mountain climbing, camping, and bathing in streams... Tours are priced from 1 to 3 million VND per person, suitable for many domestic and international tourists. Although the scale is still modest, he is steadfast in his belief of "doing it small but surely," gradually building credibility and a long-term foundation for the community tourism development model.

A La Homestay - a community-based tourism model run by the Giàng A La family - welcomes guests for an experiential learning experience.
Giàng A La shared: "Our village has the potential and advantages for developing ecotourism and community tourism. With my youthful energy, I always seek out, learn, and strive to connect tours and routes to attract tourists to the Mong village, to realize the aspiration of building a thriving Pà Cò tourism community."
Currently, his accommodation facility welcomes about 20 to 30 guests per month, generating revenue of 30-40 million VND. The model creates seasonal jobs for 3 local workers and several households participating in supporting services such as tour guides, motorbike taxis, and a performing arts group. Instead of focusing solely on personal enrichment, Giàng A La always believes that "to go far, we must go together," so he established and trained a business team to start and develop the local economy ; he also encouraged and motivated young people to change their lives right in their hometown.
