To ensure the campaign's effectiveness and safety, health centers proactively prepared thoroughly in all aspects. Units completed the review, compiled lists, and sent invitations to each family with eligible children; they also prepared sufficient medical supplies, Vitamin A capsules, scales, measuring tapes, promotional slogans, and a system of statistical and reporting forms. At the distribution points, health workers and collaborators organized reception, thorough screening and classification, administered Vitamin A in the correct dosage as prescribed, and kept children under observation for at least 30 minutes after administration to ensure absolute safety.
Vitamin A is an essential micronutrient for the development of young children. According to nutrition experts, Vitamin A helps children grow normally, supports physical development, protects eyesight, and enhances immunity. A deficiency in Vitamin A can lead to stunted growth, malnutrition, and increased susceptibility to infections.
To prevent and combat Vitamin A deficiency, the health sector recommends that parents ensure a balanced diet for their children from the early years of life. Children should be breastfed early after birth to take advantage of colostrum, which is rich in Vitamin A and natural antibodies. In addition, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months is recommended, followed by continued breastfeeding combined with a suitable complementary feeding diet until the child is 24 months old or older.
