The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a popular standardized test designed to assess the academic abilities of high school students in preparation for college. The SAT is a significant requirement in the admissions process at many universities in the United States.

Furthermore, the test results are widely accepted by over 4,000 universities and colleges worldwide, including Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Singapore, and more.

In Vietnam, the SAT exam is administered and organized by IIG Vietnam in collaboration with the College Board, the US-based educational organization that owns the SAT test. Vietnamese students can take the SAT at numerous centers nationwide, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and other provinces and cities.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , a representative from IIG Vietnam stated that the number of Vietnamese candidates taking the SAT exam has been trending upwards recently.

Specifically, in 2023, 3,510 candidates took the SAT exam in Vietnam, the highest number in the last five years.

The number of Vietnamese test-takers for the SAT in 2023 increased by 74% in the past year and by 174% compared to 2022. In 2022, 2,012 Vietnamese test-takers participated in the SAT exam.

Additionally, during the period from 2019 to 2021, the number of Vietnamese candidates taking the SAT was 1,781 (2019), 1,821 (2020), and 2,139 (2021), respectively.

Overall, in the past five years, only in 2022 did the number of Vietnamese SAT test-takers decrease slightly compared to 2021. At that time, many universities in the US and some other countries dropped the SAT requirement in their admissions process due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, by 2023, many universities in the US began requiring the SAT score again in applicants' admissions records.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many Vietnamese universities have adopted admission methods that utilize SAT exam results.

Typically, in the 2024 admissions season, more than 20 universities in Hanoi used SAT exam results as a selection method.

These include many well-known institutions such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Foreign Trade University, Commercial University, Academy of Journalism and Communication, University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), University of Pharmacy, etc.

In Ho Chi Minh City, during the 2024 admissions season, many major universities also used SAT exam results for admissions, including the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Ho Chi Minh City, the University of Economics of Ho Chi Minh City, and the University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City)...

The average SAT score is 1,024/1,600.

The SAT exam consists of two main sections. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) section tests the ability to understand and analyze texts, as well as the ability to write and correct grammar and vocabulary.

The Math section tests knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, including both sections where calculator use is permitted and not permitted.

The maximum score for the SAT is 1,600 points. The average SAT score for high school graduates in 2024 is 1,024/1,600.
