According to Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, out of more than one million high school graduation exam candidates, 660,000 registered for university admission this year, and 99.3% of them met the eligibility criteria for the first round of admissions.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy commented that the number of applicants this year shows that the demand for higher education among the people remains high. Furthermore, Ms. Thuy believes that the Ministry of Education and Training's virtual filtering process has been effective, preventing applicants from making mistakes such as registering for the wrong method or combination of subjects, thus ensuring their rights are maximized.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy presented her report at the conference on the afternoon of August 26th.

The percentage of candidates admitted based on their first choice was 49.1%. Over 85% of candidates who applied for admission were accepted into their first five choices. Meanwhile, only over 30% of candidates admitted directly confirmed their enrollment through this method, indicating that they had better options.

For candidates admitted early (based on academic transcripts, transcripts combined with international certificates, etc.), only 32.2% listed the major and university they were admitted to as their first choice. "Thus, 70% of early admission applications are fictitious, meaning candidates did not choose them. This is also a warning for universities to adjust their admission methods for next year," Ms. Thuy said.

The Director of Higher Education assessed that university admissions have seen positive changes. However, universities have too many complex admission methods and schemes, many of which do not ensure fairness, and the allocation of quotas is not reasonable, causing difficulties for candidates and the Ministry's admissions system.

Currently, admitted students are still in the enrollment confirmation period, from August 24th to September 8th. Ms. Thuy requested that schools remind and urge students to confirm their enrollment within the specified time to ensure their rights are protected.

Candidates who do not enroll as scheduled, without a valid reason, will be considered unsuccessful. Last year, out of 567,000 candidates admitted in the first round, more than 100,000 did not enroll.

Universities that haven't filled all their quotas can conduct supplementary admissions from September 9th to December. Currently, dozens of universities are recruiting more than 10,000 additional students.
