Michael Douglas's advanced age has become a major issue for his young wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, according to a source. The Wall Street star will turn 81 in September, while the Mask of Zorro actress is only 56, a quarter of a century younger than her husband.

Age difference is the main cause

"He looks weaker than ever and isn't as agile or nimble as he used to be. It's Catherine's problem," the source confirmed to RadarOnline.com .

"The Chicago actress became her husband's caregiver and she felt frustrated. Her career had to be put on hold to care for Michael. Catherine wanted to travel the world and play golf, make more movies, work with interesting people. Michael couldn't keep up with her. Instead, he sat at home and worried about the world. It became sad for them," the source added.

Now that the couple's two children, Dylan (24) and Carys (21), are grown, they have put many properties up for sale.

In 2018, they sold the Bermuda compound they had owned for decades for $10.6 million. Three years later, they put their penthouse on New York's Central Park West up for sale for $21.5 million, but later backed out.

Michael Douglas and his wife also sold their $32.4 million resort in Majorca, Spain; their $12 million estate in upstate New York, their primary residence since 2019.

"Their sale of the property surprised many people. People around them whispered that it meant they were getting a divorce," the source said.
