Japan supports many necessities for Bac Ninh people

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of October 13, at Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) received emergency international aid from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for people affected by natural disasters in Bac Ninh.

The first batch of international relief goods for localities in Vietnam

This is the first international relief shipment for Vietnamese localities affected by natural disasters caused by storms No. 10 and 11 in recent times.

The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control was assigned by the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to play the role of focal point for coordination, information sharing and connection between donors and local authorities of affected provinces.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, was the representative receiving the emergency aid. On the Japanese side, there were Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki and Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Sugano Yuichi.

The aid includes 40 water filtration devices, 5,100 sets of blankets, 1,000 plastic water tanks and 50 multi-purpose plastic sheets. After receiving, the shipment will be transferred to Bac Ninh province tomorrow morning (October 14) for the locality to organize distribution to people in the disaster area.

Timely transfer of Japanese aid goods to Bac Ninh province

At the handover ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki expressed his deep condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam for the losses and damages caused by the recent floods, especially in the Northern and North Central provinces. In the face of increasingly unusual natural disasters in Vietnam, the Japanese Government , with its aid programs, will continue to support Vietnam in further strengthening its capacity to prevent and combat natural disasters and adapt to climate change.

Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen Van Tien expressed his gratitude for the valuable support from the Japanese Government and people, affirming that the Department will take on the role of coordinating well, promptly transferring aid goods to Bac Ninh province so that the locality can deliver them to people affected by natural disasters.

In addition to today's shipment from Japan, the Department plans to receive relief goods from the Australian Government, Russia, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), and many other international organizations.

These relief resources include essential necessities, kitchenware, household items, home repairs, water filtration equipment, personal hygiene items, and cash to support localities. Relief goods will be distributed to localities heavily affected by the recent "storm on storm, flood on flood" wave, especially the northern provinces such as Lang Son, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, and Bac Ninh.
