Can Tho: Quickly perfect the organization and personnel of Business Associations

(Chinhphu.vn) – On the morning of October 13, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen and leaders of departments and branches had a meeting with leaders of 7 Associations and Business Associations in Can Tho City, on the occasion of Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day (October 13).

At the meeting, representatives of business associations in the city reported on the results of operations and the process of merging associations of three localities: Can Tho, Soc Trang and Hau Giang; difficulties and obstacles in the model and organizational structure of the associations/unions after the merger; and at the same time recommended that Can Tho City continue to create conditions for businesses to operate effectively, create jobs for people and contribute effectively to the development of the new Can Tho City.

Notably, the associations recommended that the city consider and support mechanisms, policies, part of the funding, and headquarters for the associations to operate stably, because many associations still do not have long-term headquarters, affecting common operations, especially when the three localities merge from July 1, 2025.

"After coming together, the associations hope that the city will continue to lead and direct departments, localities and associations to operate more and more strongly, worthy of the stature and position as the center of the Mekong Delta region," said Ms. Ma Thi Thanh, Vice President of the Soc Trang Province Business Association (formerly).

Dr. Tran Khac Tam, delegate of Can Tho City People's Council, Vice Chairman of the Council of Mekong Delta Business Associations, said that one of the important tasks of the Associations is to soon organize the Congress to create unity, solidarity, and joint efforts of businesses in the development of Can Tho City, contributing to the successful implementation of the tasks set out by the 1st Can Tho City Party Congress.

According to Chairman of Can Tho City Business Association Nguyen Van Hao, as the unit assigned to preside over the development of the merger project, Can Tho City Business Association will discuss and agree with the local associations on the merger plan and personnel, and submit it to the competent authority in October 2025 to reach an agreement by the end of 2025.

At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Can Tho City, discussed with the leaders of the Associations about the organization of consolidation, the development of projects and plans for consolidation of apparatus and personnel, ensuring compliance with instructions and regulations on organization, operation and personnel of professional social organizations.

Ms. Vo Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, Mekong Delta branch, said that a number of associations and business associations in some provinces in the Mekong Delta region have not yet organized a conference to consolidate organizational structure and operational personnel, but have just appointed temporary leaders to complete operations and wait for the upcoming official Congress.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen shared his concerns and worries about the current operation of business associations and said that currently, the whole city has more than 20 thousand enterprises but only more than 1,500 enterprises participate in professional associations/associations.

Therefore, it is necessary to promote membership development, create combined strength and a common voice of the business community in current recommendations and proposals to the city and ministries.

One of the issues that the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City noted is that departments, branches and associations should soon develop a project to organize and rearrange associations to operate effectively. Because this is a task that needs to be done quickly when the city's government apparatus has been operating smoothly and effectively since July 1, 2025.

"The Associations proactively propose plans for organizational mergers and propose personnel for the work in the spirit of democracy and consensus, selecting personnel worthy of the role and position of representing the city's business community," Mr. Tuyen emphasized.
